What spares/accessories are worth getting with the Mk4?

Will shortly be pushing the button on a Mk4 kit. I currently have an Anycubic Kobra and keep a spare hot end and some nozzles on hand to change out if something goes wrong and I need to carry on printing. With the Mk4 and it's new nozzle, should I keep a spare?

What other options/spares would be worth adding to the order (other than filament and tools, I have those) to save on postage while I'm ordering. I’ve only ever printed on a textured plate with PLA and PLA+, if I’m going to try PETG or ABS are other types of plates a better option?

My current printer is in an enclosure so that's covered too. Thanks.

I can recommend to get the smooth sheet for PLA and the textured one for PETG - those work great, and I never had to resort to tricks like a glue stick. Apart from that, the printer is a pretty complete package.

Thanks very much for that. Am I right that the kit comes with the textured sheet so I should buy the smooth as an extra?

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think it comes with the smooth one, so you should add either the textured or the satin one to your order.

Reading through the plate descriptions, I'm now wondering between satin and textured and if having both would be advantageous or if one is a better all rounder than the other.

The MK4 comes with a smooth sheet, and that cannot be changed. You can add an extra sheet of your choice at additional cost.

I have not used the textured sheet but I’ve printed ASA and PETG on the satin sheet. Below are PETG parts printed on satin on my MINI (they are MK4 parts I used to assemble my MK4 kit in a custom color scheme when it arrived).

A spare nozzle is a good idea but I’m not sure how often you changed them on your old printer. I never ended up using a spare for my MINI when I had it, and I don’t have any spares for my MK4 yet. I’ll be getting some different nozzle sizes and a spare 0.4 when they finally ship my MMU3…

Thanks very much, that's helpful. I went through a few nozzles on my current printer, mainly because when they got clogged or the prints weren't working well, a nozzle change was a cheap £1-5 and quick way of fixing it. I changed out a hot end after a bad clog which was £12, all available on amazon. With the Prusa, shipping cost and time add up coming to the UK so figured it worth getting any spares would be a good plan but with the new Hotend/nozzle on the MK4 I wasn't sure if they're likely to need changing as often.

I've not considered other sizes though but had read recently that a 0.6 can speed up printing quite a bit without losing too much quality. Then again, with input shaping and the Mk4, it's going to be a fair bit faster than my current printer which runs at 60mm/s with a 0.4mm nozzle.

As far as the nozzles are concerned, you might consider buying the V6 mozzle adapter for the MK4. That would allow you to use the easily available E3D nozzles.

I'd been looking at that nozzle and wondered if there were advantages to the Prusa all in one or whether changing the individual nozzles was a good option as you're not changing the whole feed at the same time.

Yes, that thought crossed my mind as well - and I bought some of the Prusa Nozzles because of that. My situation is different, though - I live in Germany, and ordering stuff from Prusa isn't that big of a deal inside the EU. The situation you describe would be one in which I'd consider just trying it out, though. Not much can go wrong, and at the very least you'll get some more life out of the V6 nozzles you already own.

My understanding is the E3D nozzles are cheaper, so you save some money. But an advantage of the Prusa nozzle is there's no hot tightening required, you do it all cold.

Ah, now I hadn't thought of that. Thank you.
