Trade-in options for owners of a previous device

Will there be any trade-in deals for owners of older Prusa Printers?

I doubt it.  The upgrades cover that aspect.

There is definitely a market for used working 3d printers, but I doubt if Prusa wants to get into that business.

Ebay seems to be the go-to place for selling used printers.  Genuine Prusa printers usually sell for a bit more than the clones.

What printer do you currently have?  If it's the MK3S+ I wouldn't even sweat it to be honest.  MK4 has some creature comforts and some small improvements but it accomplishes the same tasks.

RE:

It’s an evolutionary change, and the Mk3s+ is a good machine before and after the MK4.  If you can tune your 1st layer confidently yourself and if the Klipsich and shape thingy black magic can be backward integrated to the Mk3s I agree.

Even with bed leveling, the last 20-25mm of the edge of my mini and Mk3 beds are not usable.  If the new heating/construction/bed-leveling of the Mk4/XL really allow printing (consistently) to the edge, that is worth something.

Looking at it from a gear standpoint, going from a MK3S+ to a Mk4 by upgrading, you are changing almost everything.

Selling would be the best way.

RE: Trade-in options for owners of a previous device

I was ordering the full upgrade kit to upgrade my MK3S+ to MK4. But then realize that the cost was almost too near to a full kit 😮
I would had a MK4, and a box full of ex MK3 parts & pieces (still fully working)  + all my spare parts of MK3S !!!
I though that my MK3S+ works well (it was Prusa assembled), I know how it behaves, I have lots of spare parts, and it is widely still used on print farms.
I don't know anything of MK4 and if I mess something dismounting the MK3->MK4, I will have zero printers working until I fix the problem. 😨
So I changed mind and I am currently planning to purchase a MK4 kit as soon as it will be available, so I will have my MK3S+ intact and a new MK4.

I should tell you another story.

One week before the MK4 announcements, I was looking for a fast printer (probably corexy) and with enclosure to print ABS and remove toxic fumes.
I evaluated the bambu, but I want something I could fix with no proprietary parts, and the firmware should be open source; so I excluded the bambu.
Then, I started orienting myself on the Voron. Voron 0.1: too small.  Voron 2.4 seemed ok. But soon I changed mind when I saw the incredible mess to mount and calibrate one of them. But in reality was THE NOISE and VIBRATIONS of that printers that forced me to abandon the idea. It is simple not possible to print at home.
I started to re-evaluate to purchase only the Prusa Box Enclosure for MK3S+, and be able to print ABS with no fumes even if at normal speed.
I evaluated also the possibility to take an XL, but the shipping time was too far. I could not find any other solutions from Prusa products.

Then I discovered the new FLSUN V400 that is a delta with an incredible speed up to 400mm that printed even fasted than a bambu X1C.
It is controlled by Klipper and it as a 8 inches touch screen (inside there is ubuntu on a processor similar to Raspberry PI4)
I never had a delta, and I liked to idea to get one, even because the place was 300x300. The price was around 800$. It is almost open source since you can reinstall the Klipper from factory with the official Klipper from github.
So, I liked it and I ordered it. I had just finished assembling it, when the MK4 was announced ! 😤

Now I have a MK3S+/MMU2S and the V400. Is still worth for me to purchase the MK4 kit ?
Probably yes,  may be not soon. If I had known earlier that the MK4 existed, probably I would have nor purchased the V400 and ordered a Mk4 instead.

Regarding the trading of MK3, please do not jeopardize them on eBay 😣 . They are valuable printers!
A MK3S kit is $719 and an assembled one is still around $900. I well maintained and fully working MK3 could still be sold to 700$.
Of course the number of hours of print matter for some mechanical parts, and it should be kept in consideration.
The power of them is that they will work forever (if you can fix them correctly). I horrify when I hard someone saying that a used MK3S can value +/- 300$ 😨 .

It would be nice if we could define an official PRICE LIST FOR PRUSA USED PRINTERS 😀  (like for the cars), may be based on the number of print hours and state of some parts. Prusa can even give suggestions (at the end this could give more value to the brand). I really think a Prusa will have a value forever.

Best Regards

I will be doing the same. The full upgrade kit is too close to the price of a new MK4 kit - and you get to either keep or sell your previous printer too. Hence I will be ordering the MK4 kit once available and will evaluate what to do with my MK3S+. I will most likely sell it on and recoup much of the money spent on the MK4…..

Wouldn’t use eBay for the sale of such an item. A buyer could easily mess up the printer, or just not know how to use it properly, and return in several weeks later as ‘Not as described’ or ‘faulty’ and you will be forced to accept the return and issue a refund - then deal with whatever you get back.

Safest way is a one-to-one sale so the buyer can closely inspect the item, maybe even see it printing, then take it away knowing it’s working and there is no refund.

There is not, I confirmed with Prusa support through chat, and I sold my MK3s+ through the Facebook marketplace while waiting for my MK4.
