PrusaLink and Networking Stack... Ugh

As much as I love my MK3S+ and now my newly assembled MK4, I would consider the whole networking stack a pre-alpha attempt. Any little device you buy today will search surrounding wifi signals and allow you to select your SSID and simply enter in your password. Having to write a plain text file and pass it between PC and MK4 is archaic and a security risk. I know the LCD allows for deletion of the file but as we all know, it's never gone until reformatted or overwritten.

PrusaLink, as much as I wanted it to be good, is a big disappointment. Have to use a user account and password from the MK4 and it can't be changed? No camera option? The Dashboard is lacking of anything of use - but to be fair, I haven't printed from PrusaLink yet so maybe more options will pop up.

It looks like we can still use Octoprint but I hoped PrusaLink would replace the added RPi, cables, etc. I know it's in beta but beta's are generally feature complete and just working on bug-fixes now, so this tells me we're not going to get much more until a bigger release is out.

I agree with all of that. The software is not ready for prime time. It reminds me of my experience with Bose. They make great sounding speakers (the hardware part) but when they tried to make smart speakers their software was sorely lacking. Bose never got it right, but there is still hope that Prusa will.

I've alway used OctoPrint to print to my MK3S, and now I'm using it for my MK4. It works great. I even just found a cool Android app that makes it even better to use from your phone. But I would prefer to not have to keep the additional hardware/software running.
