RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

FW 6.0.1  Does not specifically show File transfer fixes, but uploading via PrusaLink is working much better for me.  I loaded 7 files from 80K to 134MB and then compared them to the master.  No dropouts or redundant blocks all look good.    Sending files directly from PrusaSlicer  the upload and print option works most of the time. The upload only has a high failure rate for me.    Once a transfer fails, I often have to restart the MK4 and PrusaSlicer to get transfers working again.    PrusaLink monitoring, file deletion working great.  Wifi itself seems great.  I even got a new WiFi card incase it was a memory problem on the WiFi card, but no change in behavior.   I have reported problems on Github.   The more that report on Github, the better the attention.

RE:

I get this on all 15 on my MK4 printers, but not on every print, one in 4or5 prints of the same file. Random perimiters missing. Always just one perimeter and a complete circumference. Random positions in relation to Z height. I always use prusa connect for sending files and starting printers via the platform, all printings using Firware v6, been happening for over 6 months.

Intially I thought this may be under extrusion, blockages, etc,

Tried the following:

1) Higher temps

2) Different filament brands for PLA/PLA+

3) New nozzles

4) Cold pulls after every print..

5) Servicing printers - straightening belts, checking belt tensions, greasing the gearbox, designed new spool holders to reduce friction and the possibility of under extrusion, complete nozzle changes, checked and greased all bearings, the list goes on....

I have now started copying files directly to USB and starting prints manually, basically no prusa connect. I will report back in a few days, I usually get a failed print (missing perimeter) every 24 hours.

Thanks for posting.

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

Not sure if my issue is related but I was printing a small object (takes about 8 min with IS) perfectly fine but when I tried to print 30 instances of them at once I was getting blobs that would cause problems ruin the whole print. After third try I looked closely at what was printing and it turns out that the printing for the parts was incomplete - perimeters and most of the infill was done but some infill just wasn't done. Checked the simulator on PrusaSlicer and everything looks fine there. In any case, I'm trying with direct USB copy now (was using WiFi) to see if that works. Either way it's pretty strange.

OK - ignore the previous post - turns out the problem is my filament does not like being printed that fast and it's severely underextruding with fast infill spaces so it *looks* like it's not printing there. I'll slow things down and see if that helps. It's an off-brand translucent PETG filament that happens to be just the right color.

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

Since the 24th May (8days) I've been copying files to my printers manually via USB. I've not used Prusa Connect at all. 15 MK4 printers running 24/7 since then, and I've had no repeat of this problem. I would ordinarily get a print with a missing perimeter once every 48 hours or so.

I've raised the issue with Prusa, no update from them in terms of identifying a possible software bug. I'm going start using Connect again on a couple of printers and test to see if scheduling prints, deleting files from the cloud, turning off wifi mid-print etc. has any effect.

I only see this happen, perhaps 1 in every 4-5 prints of the same file and it does not appear that it is related to a certain file. I get it on everything randomly.

I had the same experience as you, Good that you got it working! On my MK4 i can transfer the file with Prusa Connect, but if i send the "print" command from Prusaslicer i get the missing lines randomly as described earlier. If i send the g-code over Prusa Connect and then press print on the printer, it seams to work without any problems.

Same issue....  I have a gut feeling this issue starting appearing after the switch to binary GCODE, but I don't have any hard evidence.

The list of random issues just seem to be piling up with this printer...

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

Just to chime in, new MK4 built yesterday updated to FW 6.0.2.

Printing files via PrusaConnect I got a complete missing external perimeter on my 4th print. It was so perfectly missing I had to start looking up if anyone else had this issue.

Good to know it isn't the printer, but the software/firmware/PrusaConnect BGCODE.

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

I tracked down my WIFI file transfer problem.  Very long story shortened.    USB3 thumb drive was causing the problems.   I changed to a USB2, 8GB 4096 allocation size and WIFI file transfer is working reliably now.

Details of the USB3 based problems reported on Github.   I know USB3 is backwards compatible on a PC, but this is not a PC.

Im using a USB 3.0 stick for my MK4, people wrote on FB and the forums that the ones provided with the printer was of poor quality and had caused them problems. Has anyone else found the same conclusion?

RE:

I've been chasing Prusa about this. I've been informed it is a bug.

"Thank you for getting back to me.This indeed looks like a known issue within the firmware. It happens when the printer is printing while using PrusaConnect. For now, I recommend turning off PrusaConnect and using the printer without it. There should be a hotfix in the next firmware version, with a permanent solution coming later on.I am sorry for the inconvenience."

Let's wait and see, it's a shame it's taking this long to get fixed. I raised it with them a month ago.

RE:

It looks like the USB intermittent printing problem results in a error message sometimes, and that the printer aborts the print. The solution now is to get the printer to continue instead.

My problem didnt cause the printer to stop printing and didnt cause an error message, it happily printed the print without any error messages, it just had missing perimeters randomly.

RE:

I just had this issue on my MK4 (6.0.4+14924) when printing from PrusaSlicer 2.8.0 via Prusa Connect. 😢 I just got Prusa Connect set up a few days ago and was very excited to be able to use it, then this problem showed up. Somebody on Reddit pointed me to this thread when I asked about the print issue over there. Very disappointing.

Does anybody know if this affects XL as well? Somebody on my Reddit thread said he had a similar issue on his XL one time only when using Connect.

Does Connect still work for monitoring the printers if I upload the files via Prusa Link? Or is it just having Connect enabled at all?

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

My MK4 has randomly been doing to too, over multiple firmware version and two different USB sticks. I exclusively use Connect to transfer files and start prints. Usually, the band it misses is on layer 1 or 2 and it is seemingly random. I've confirmed that the gcode on the USB is not corrupted. I have also seen it miss a single outer perimeter though that may be a different issue.  https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/3650

I tried again to use Prusa Connect "upload and print", but the problem is still there, now using 6.1.3 with my MK4s.

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

I spent some more time tying to see where the problem comes from.

  • Prusa Connect - "Upload and print" 3 benchys, 2 of them had missing lines
  • Prusa Connect - "Upload" and then print on the printer, 3 benchys, 1 of them had missing lines
  • Prusa Link - "Upload and print", 6 benchys, no missing lines on any.

Files does not show any difference when G-code is compared between the slicer and the printer when used Prusa Connect.

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

Another issue i found, the prints with both Prusalink and Prusa connect(upper benchy) have small dimples in some areas, and the ones printed with USB transfer dont have any(lower benchy), so even if they arent missing any perimeters with Prusalink, its still not working properly.

RE: Prusa MK4 missing lines randomly

I installed the 6.2.0 Alpha 1 firmware on my MK4 and think that might have solved the problem! I will print a few more benchys, but the benchys look very nice and have no dimples/artefacts or missing lines so far!
