Power off and resume

Planning to get a MK4 at work but I can't run prints or have any of the heating elements on overnight. Any idea if I can power off and resume the print the next day?

We had a flashforge adv4 melted a nozzle so there a block on overnight prints.

I don’t think that’s possible.

If you turn it off, the bed will cool down and that means the adhesion is gone.

It’s the same, when a power failure occurs. A short power failure is no problem, the printer will resume printing. But after a longer power failure the printer will not resume printing, because if the bed cools down the risk is too high.

With PLA, no. As James Kirk said, the model will come loose and no good things will happen from there. Other materials with stronger adhesion to the print bed such as TPU *may* be fine. But I for one wouldn't want to find out. If you are truly concerned about things like nozzles melting, you should consider putting your printer in an enclosure with a smoke detection system.

I think the Prusa machines are pretty well protected from thermal runaway. I certainly don't mind running the machines overnight.

You might talk to the powers that be and discuss the advantages of using a Prusa machine.

It is possible however to "pause" the print overnight - I've done it twice when my spouse complained of the noise.  The bed heater remains on overnight, but the nozzle cools off completely so there is no fan noise.  Resuming even with PLA I had no problem.

But if you can't have the bed heater on either then this isn't a solution.
