MK4 Height Upgrade
Hello everyone,
I'm using the MK4 printer for a while now ( 1 and a half year) and I can honestly say I'm pleased with it, but I would like to print more on the Z axis, let's say 300mm instead of the basic 210mm.
Can anyone suggest how should that? What parts should I buy and how that will affect my software, meaning what calibration I would need to do if this kind of change is doable
Thank you!
RE: MK4 Height Upgrade
I can't imagine that what you want to do is practicable. I would look into buying a second printer if a larger print volume is required.
RE:
In theory, 'all' you'd need to cut and heighten the frame, re-enforce it, add add longer z-rods and threaded rods, and replace the cable between the Buddy board and the extruder. And, of course, you'd need to change the software to deal with the new dimensions and utilise the space gained.
Problems I see though are the stability of these high prints you want to make. The y-axis motor jerks the bed forward-aft like a madman.
All together I think it is not something one would want to pursue. Better check out the cutting tools in PrusaSlicer first. Otherwise consider replacing the MK4 with an XL.
RE: MK4 Height Upgrade
You would have to create an MK4H 🤣 and maintain the firmware yourself.
However I do not recommand high bed-slinger printers. When the Y (bed) shakes, the force to detach the object from the bed is proportional to the heigh of the object since it is a lever with the fulcrum on the plate, and this is why bed-slinger high printers that would be able to print high objects, would have an high probability to detach the objects during print at high speed (IS), unless you print SLOOOOoooooowwwww.......
This is one of the reason the XL is CoreXY, the FLSUN400 is delta. The bed does not move, and an high object has almost no possibility to detach.
I suggest to purchase an XL. 😉
