Wow those noises are bad. I'll have to sit with mine for the first layers and see if it's happening (The vast majority of jobs I print, I just shoot it over and don't watch, too). I'm surprised they make you send in the full printer - seems like sending parts back and forth would be both easier and more economical.

But it's not easier when you have to disassemble the whole printer to do it, and there are no instructions for it yet. Not everyone is talented enough or has the necessary experience to disassemble the printer, change the motors and reassemble it.Also, I opted for a complete assembled printer for a reason. I paid for a working printer, so I expect the same. Otherwise, it's up to Prusa to sort out the problem, not me.But I understand what you mean.das

Just turned my Mk3S on for the first time since getting the Mk4 and it is significantly quieter. My MK4 sounds just like Cloud1983's video, a sort of saw noise.

I would contact support because what I have seen is the exact opposite.

Yeah I would say I had a noticeable drop in sound from my MK3S to my MK4 as well.

I would call it "Sawgate." 😉

I have printed a few things today, and now printing again, this time the noice is not as bad. It sound the same, but the rattling is there like 5% instead of 95%.

Still not okey in the long run but a huge difference.

I would contact Prusa support even if I had the slightest saw type noise - although it may not bother you too much now, it may be causing damage internally and wearing down the motor gears……

It was with me also always times differently strongly from embossed. Depending on what you have printed. Take a look at a large first layer, for example a large square with diagonal lines. Theoretically, it should be most clearly audible there.

Yes, I already did that. I also will see to it to be a permanent fix.

It’s not completely silent, still the 5% of rattling etc.

I've been in touch with them for a few other things like the damaged bed and a faulty xBuddy board (the screen would randomly go black), so I will add this to the list! At the moment I can't record any videos because the faulty xBuddy board is on the way back to Prusa. Maybe it's time to ask them to swap the entire printer.

Provide receipts for what??

It's a forum with free speech, not a court that needs evidence. Take things as and how you will.

Prusa came back to me by mail after the long night checking things together with the support.

I got the tips to try to loosen the bottom lid below the lower X-axis rod/bearings and to retighten crosswise without overtighten.

No difference, no joy.

I do not know how they would be able to fix this at a distance, I can only see a exchange or fix at prusas place…

I just read in the XL thread, its seems the nextruder do that noise on that as well.

They have suggested the same tip to me several times. Seems to be a standard tip, because with such noises one always assumes the bearings as the cause at first.

My new MK4 is now also there. 3 screws team ahoy. The noise what my previous has made is but also with this minimal to hear. Especially with the second purge line, which is from right to left or when the printer prints at a certain speed eg a border. But it is much less than before especially much quieter and I think a certain degree of this noise is normal.

I have an MK4 and just got it installed into an enclosure; I have done 4 Prints.  No errors. one print was 36 hours, and it is currently printing 12 Hour job.

I've got the rattling/buzzing noise issue on the Z-axis.

I've been banging my head against it and I think in my case I /may/ have found the issue:  the power supply is rattling.  Even though it's tight against the frame there's something inside which is making a buzzing noise.  I removed it and rewired it so it could lay flat on the table on a washcloth.  When I move the z-axis (or auto home) the rattling coming from the right side is pretty much gone.  The buddy board box resonates a little as well, but the bulk of the noise seems to be on the power supply side.  I'm still experimenting.

Had one of the dodgy batch of motors, but it has been working more or less fine since that has been replaced.

Also had some homing issues, but I think the belt tensioning I did also more or less sorted that too. The firmware is VERY sensitive to things like that.

Just quoting this to show how FUD and BS can easily spread around. Nothing this guy said was correct, especially now I have experience using a MK4.

As some already noticed we changed the MK4 gearbox cover. It is manufacturing optimization and gives us a higher yield in production - we can make more printers. This is part of every printer lifecycle and MK3 had hundreds of production tweaks over time. This and some other little things slowed us down a bit, and we are now roughly 2 weeks behind the original estimated dates. We are now picking up speed 🏎️

We register a few user reports with MK4 not being as quiet as it should be. We are investigating, and it looks like one limited batch of motors with different specs is the probable culprit. I will follow up in the article 🔇

From: https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/13jjk9c/quick_update/

So, BS on the 50% failure rate claim and BS on the nextruder or any other "design flaw". Simple manufacturing QOL updates (expected over any manufactured product), and a small amount of QC issue / 3rd party vendor management.

Something something mountains and mole hills...

Unfortunately that's just PR speak.  It's easy to call any change an enhancement for efficiency but there was/is more to it than that.  Regardless of if they want to say - we messed up and didn't recognize an issue pre-production or not is fully up to them at this point.  I couldn't care less what people think.

Unfortunately, the negative noisy ones tend to get the most attention.
