RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

Same. I have one of the early MK4s, and have 20 days of actual print time on it so far. I still have no issues, but, if there is an actual problem that needs addressed, I hope Prusa comes through and notifies folks. Since they haven't yet, that makes me think this isn't widespread or something I should be concerned over.

I'm sure we will find out what the exact change was soon enough - and I'd be very interested in what it was/is exactly!.......

Four screw crew signing in lol

My printer works fine right now after 100 odd hours of printing but if there is something that can be improved I hope Prusa does inform us.  Could just be related to assembly issues.  Probably be more info when the assembly/maintenance articles are released.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

The screw being indicative of a change, and not the total change is a fair point, and I would agree that's probably the case. It does signal that the design changed for some reason, and maybe it is your "design flaw" or maybe it is an assembly issue (which I am more inclined to believe). Nobody asked you to disassemble the entire thing, and I don't expect you to disassemble anything... but I'd love to know if there's a screw in the 4th hole under the plate.

There's something off about your post though, you say you've been testing the 3-screw version for 10 days, and your photo shows that you have one. The hotend in the photo looks extremely clean, not what I would expect after even a few prints, so it was taken right when you got it, and probably for the sole reason of showing 3 screws. Why then didn't you bring that up 10 days ago???

You've made numerous posts within those 10 days where you were supposedly defending yourself from people doubting you... showing this new design would have given you so much evidence of the change, and was such a perfect way to "prove" you were right. Yet you only posted it after someone else made the first observation. Something is very off here, I doubt you've had the replacement 3-screw design for 10 days. Your post only worked to discredit you, when pointing this out 10 days ago would have given you MUCH more credit.

If this change is the fix to a design flaw that 50% of users are having, then I'd suspect we'd here much more about this from existing 4-screw people, and Prusa would be sending replacement parts. I still bet it makes the assembly easier, locking the gear box in place before they put the cover on.

I said that the screw is the visible byproduct of the changes, not that it was the totality - I was very clear it was a combination of things all along - every post.  The tolerances and assembly of the Nextruder combined to make resonance throughout the toolhead, not a single screw or tension.  That was explained in great detail in the initial troubleshooting posts on Reddit.

I don't pretend to work for Prusa or have access to their STEP files.  And I'm not totally deconstructing our new R2's Nextruder's and carriage to find exactly what changed in every component - just to satisfy a few.

Over the past 10 days we've completed the field evaluation they requested on the R2 design.  This was in tandem with our account manager and the same team we've worked with for nearly a month now.

I have always stated that I was working with their team to first identify the issues, then work with them on various tweaks and adjustments, and then to receive and test in the field 2 replacements.

To be fair, the original hot end on my MK3S+ that I've just sold, after owning and printing for 4 months or so (PLA only printing, mind), also looked completely clean - like new.

Another member of the four screw crew here. 🙂

Still happily printing along after almost 4 weeks with the printer. No real problems so far. At least I don't have to feel like I got screwed out of a screw ... 😉 (sorry) 🙂

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

Hello, I have printed 180h. Prints without problems and are very nice. Pet-G, PLA and FLEX.Now for the problems:1. The first layer resonated, all I had to do was tighten the two screws holding the hotend and I have peace of mind. I lubricated the printer just to be sure and it is quiet.2. After flashing the firmware to version 4.6.1. error 13315 occurs every time it is turned on, according to support it will be removed in the next firmware.3. Error 13301 and it bothers me. Happens randomly, before printing starts. The Z-axis goes down and starts to rise, goes down again and when it repeats three times, it reports an error. Some days the error doesn't show up at all. The load sensor has different values every time, sometimes it shows 400, sometimes it shows 9000. I don't know if it has something to do with it.Support would like to send the printer, but I believe that they will fix the firmware and the entire printer.

So...people were getting screwed four times and now they wonder why they are only getting screwed three times?

(haven't received my MK4 yet so an attempt at levity is all I have to offer at this time.)

Perhaps they'll add another screw to the already very generous supply of spare screws? 🙂

Is that just a dowel?

Perhaps that is the sensor for input shaping? 🙂

The kit version is due for release soon.  Prusa have been testing the build process, the manuals and the resulting printers.  Many minor changes may just be to smooth the process for the less technical - that might just be an aligner to reduce the chance of fitting the wrong way round...

Cheerio,

yeah it looks like an alignment dowel to me.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

Awesome. Hard to tell from the blurry photo but it may have threads on it and an allen key hole... but maybe not. Either way, it looks like a change to make assembly easier and not to fix any performance issue.

I imagine that Prusa is assembling the gearboxes in house even for the kits. The MK4 handbook says pretty clearly on page 16 to not remove the gearbox cover under any circumstances as it's aligned and calibrated from the factory. Perhaps this alignment pin is them knowing their audience that we can't deal with being told not to undo those screws. Hopefully they put out a statement somewhere for this change.

Nope. I don't think it is. According to Prusa, the MK4 does not have an integrated sensor
