First Layer and different nozzle lengh

Hi,

I have two questions regarding the first layer.

- if I would change the nozzle and take a hardended nozzle that has different lengh or if the distance between nozzle and bed would not be the same like with the original one what would happen? The measurement of z-height would not work. Am I right?

- if I print ABS or PC Blend normally I change my z-Adjustment value to press the filament a little bit more on the bed. This I do to eliminate warping. But when I print with a MK4 I cannot change it. Is there another possibility or is it set in the firmware to make the distance between nozzle and bed shorter for ABS or PC?

Btw why when I preheat for exampel for ABS it goes till 170°C and only if I start print it increase to 215°C . From my experience it makes more sense to heat for example with 215°C some minutes to avoid clocked nozzle.

A different nozzle length won’t matter as the Mk4 will recalculate the z height using the load cell.

If you want to change the z height during a print hold down the rotary switch and you will be given the option to change the z height for that print.

No that's not working during the print!

Do you have the latest firmware? It was part of that I believe. And you must do it in the first layer.

This was done to ensure that no filament could run out of the nozzle during the bed level routine.

That is correct.

The MK4 uses the nozzle as the measurement point.

If there is anything on or under the nozzle,

it will give a false reading.

So keep it clean properly.

I don't know how this exactly work but would maybe also mean that if I install a heavy hotend maybe it would be necessary to change some values for measurement. Would be nice to know how exactly it does work.

Should work the same as your common digital kitchen scale - afaik it asks you to touch the nozzle during first calibration, so if there were any problem with a "heavy" hotend you could just re-run that to tell it what the "normal" value is.

That could be some. Btw inoribted ABS and textured steelsheet and window was open and the print is fine without warping 🙂 and my MK3s in an enclosure and 60°C inside is not able to give me the same result 🙂 that's funny. But the adhesion on the bed of the MK4 is very high also with glue it was hard to remove the ABS part. So maybe the firmware is programmed to reduce the distance between bed and nozzle for higher temperatures...
