6.0.1 Firmware for Original Prusa MK4

Summary

  • Japanese language support (MK4, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL)
  • Phase stepping fixes (XL)
  • Nozzle cleaning repaired (MK4, MK3.9, XL)
  • Acceleration limit restored (MK4, MK3.9, MINI)
  • Stealth mode corrected (MK4, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL)

This is a stable firmware release 6.0.1 that adds one more language and fixes some issues discovered during testing, as well as reported by the Prusa community.

Japanese language support (MK4, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL)

Together with our team in Japan, we have translated the entire Buddy firmware into Japanese. The firmware will be utilizing Katakana. While implementing all the characters we encountered some interesting challenges. For example, Latin characters are typically more rectangular (taller than wider), whereas Katakana characters are closer to square in shape. This required some adjustments in the firmware.

The Japanese language is currently available for most of our printers on the Buddy platform, the only exception is MINI/MINI+ which requires further optimizations. We expect support for the MINI in the upcoming firmware release.

To our Prusa community in Japan ハッピー・プリンティング!

Phase stepping fixes (XL)

The developers have thoroughly reviewed the part of the firmware responsible for phase stepping and identified some edge cases occurring during operations such as homing, layer changes, filament changes, and tool changes on the XL.

Now, these specific edge cases are fixed and there should no longer be any skipped layers after the G-code M600 (filament change), and the XL tools should always be parked correctly.

Nozzle cleaning repaired (MK4, MK3.9, XL)

The nozzle cleaning process sometimes resulted in an error “Nozzle cleaning failed” due to a bug introduced in firmware 6.0.0. This bug caused the load cell buffer to "underrun," leading to an incorrect calculation of the distance between the tip of the nozzle and the heatbed. This error has now been fixed, and the nozzle cleaning feature should perform correctly again.

Acceleration limit restored (MK4, MK3.9, MINI)

Firmware 6.0.0 accidentally lowered the HW limit for acceleration and jerk in Normal mode, this release returns the limit to its original value.

Stealth mode corrected (MK4, MK3.9, MK3.5, XL)

In some scenarios, the firmware was not able to switch back to the Normal mode, this is now fixed.

RE: 6.0.1 Firmware for Original Prusa MK4

Not sure if this update ruined my MK4 or the MMU3 is garbage, but upgrading the MK4 to the MMU3 wrecked my printing experience, and I am getting all kinds of crazy errors since upgrading the firmware.. everything from the nozzle not keeping up the temperature to false jam readings. The user interface is absolute garbage as there is no back button and no override options to aid with troubleshooting. Often the only way to proceed is to "reset" the printer and redo a bunch of steps. I'm about ready to throw this printer in the dumpster, light it on fire, and stick with my Elegoo and Anker printers. The MMU3 should never have been released, should have waited until you were ready to produce it assembled and attached to a MK4. My next step is going to be to spend ANOTHER day redoing the final MMU3 calibrations and build steps and doing another test print. If that fails I'm downgrading my MK4 to 6.0 firmware and throwing the MMU3 in a dumpster... let's hope the "upgrade" didn't prevent a successful downgrade.

For me, both MK4 and MMU3 work perfectly with 6.01.

I assembled the MMU3, connected it and didn't have to adjust anything. It has worked without any errors since then. Simply fantastic.  The results exceed my expectations.

I also noticed that some of the back buttons were missing.  Sometimes only a reset helps. But if you don't like things, don't just grumble about them. Report it on Github, describe the problem or wish, and actively help to make the whole thing better.

That's one of the reasons for Prusa. You can actively help shape it.  And the software is constantly being developed over many years.

In your case, I would reset to factory settings and reflash everything.  I assume that the MMU3 has been carefully assembled. This is where it pays to work very carefully.  I hope you have the same positive experience with your MMU3 as I did.

Lol glad that some are having a positive experience, and yes I'm "grumbling" ... but at least taking the time to do so under the Prusa post about the firmware so they could get an idea of the issues I'm having. Absolutely, carefully assembled and tried all the troubleshooting steps in the documentation plus tinkering (like playing with different layouts of the spools, printing slower, making sure to use official/tested GCodes for test prints, different filament types and so on). I like that they have a "living" online instruction document where people commented under the assembly steps with feedback. We live in amazing times, but sometimes a better process can't make up for a rushed rollout!

I understand your anger. And if it works for others it doesn't make it any better.

But things like this are better on Github because that's where the developers are.

If I understand it correctly, your printer was working fine before.  And apparently the firmware works for others too. Maybe something went wrong with the flashing? Otherwise just ask in the relevant forum.

I`m a bit disappointed about the MK4/MMU3 comnbination, I miss a lot of features haveing with MK3s+/MMU2s.

One of the worst things is, if you goto Adjustments while printing and selct "change Filament" with MK3S you had the posibility to select another Filament position, now you can need to change the Roll phisically in the MMU...

Or the Loadtests, in MK3s you had the possiblity to select All filaments, now you need to select one after another...

And so on...

The load to MMU >Load All
Issue has been raised with Prusa. It was in the earlier firmware builds but was missed for some reason in later builds

Haven't had the chance to install this on my personal MK4 yet, but can anyone confirm whether or not this update fixes the WiFi bug that 6.0 brought in? I know they didn't list it amongst the fixes for 6.0.1, but it'd be nice if it also fixed the WiFi issue.
