4.7.1 Firmware for Original Prusa MK4

Greetings all; 

We are happy to announce the release of our latest firmware for our Original Prusa XL printer. Please see the update notes below. 

Summary

  • Single-tool G-code on a multi-tool printer (XL)
  • Selftest extension (MK4)
  • Support for xBuddy revision (MK4)
  • Known Bugs

This is a final release of firmware 4.7.1 with changes for both the Original Prusa MK4 and Original Prusa XL.

Single tool G-Code on a multi-tool printer (XL)

Until now, multi-tool printers have always picked the first tool when given a single-tool-specific G-Code. Starting this release, the printer uses a preselected tool for printing single tool G-Code. Users can preselect the tool from the Menu -> Control -> Pick/Park Tool.

Selftest extension (MK4)

Nextruder allows for user-friendly nozzle changes, however, some nozzles have different thermal properties, which might affect the behavior during heating and lead to failures in Selftest.

Starting 4.7.1, the user can make the system aware of the hardware setup in Menu -> Settings -> Hardware -> Nozzle Type [Normal/High Flow] This setting can be also adjusted immediately after a failed Selftest with an option to repeat the test.

Support for xBuddy revision (MK4)

This firmware release is extending support for the upcoming xBuddy hardware revision. The system recognizes between the boards automatically and there is no need for user intervention.

The reason for a revision is due to a change in chip suppliers, however, there is no difference in performance between existing and upcoming hardware revisions.

Known Bugs

  • In case of a hotend fan error (e.g., filament stuck in fan blades) is not properly resolved (e.g. filament removed from the fan) and the user selects to continue with the print anyway, the printer might get stuck and the only option is to stop the print.
  • A hotend fan error followed immediately by a Print fan error can lead to a system loop in the error screens.

...............C.S. told me that Prusa is already developing a board to include the accelerometer. They couldn't tell me if that will be a free or paid upgrade...............

 

Someone from the forum wrote that here.I don't want to believe it because the connection is already on the old board.Because that would not be acceptable for the first buyers.

Buy the sensor ok. But if you had to change the board .....

Based on the explanation above that sounds like something different.  The accelerometer should be on the e-axis or extruder and not the Buddy board.

Too many part revisions already considering how new the printer is. Power panic connector, xLCD, now the xBuddy board. Need to wait for the first units with the new board to see if there are any differences, hopefully not.

The answer is in the report.  The revision is due to a change in chips—no change in functionality.

I can read yeah. I’m just saying that for as much as I (and most of us) like Prusa, it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true that it’s just a supply reason.

It's when the printer is new that we expect the most revisions - this is the main strength of Prusa's manufacturing system with many parts, now including circuit boards, being built in house.  Changes resulting from user feedback or supply chain issues, can be implemented much faster than if they were outsourced.

- though it is very likely.  Just see the issues with missing components in the auto industry or try to buy a Raspberry Pi Zero2...

I've asked support and no change is planned regarding Input Shaper. The current version can and is also used by the developers.

Maybe there will be a possibility in the future for experienced users.

Well, that is good for you.  

Prusa has always been pretty good with their word on development, and if there is a difference, there is usually an upgrade path.  To this date, they have not given most any reason to doubt that.
