The wifi throughput on the ESP32 is at least good enough to support a videostream as can be seen on those ESP32CAM modules. I don't quite understand why they did not at least ditch the ESP8266 for an ESP32 because the price impact would really not have been that much, and dual core WiFi processor does not sound bad from a marketing standpoint! 🙂

The cameras are almost certainly attached the the ESP32 SPI port in those modules.  According to the docs, the ESP32 SPI port can run at up to 80MHz, or about 10MB/s.  That's plenty fast for a camera.  However the xBuddy WiFi module isn't connected via SPI, but regular serial.

The STM32F407VG used on the xBuddy has three SPI ports.  One is used to talk to the LCD.  One is used to interface with flash memory.  The third shares pins with the wired ethernet interface.  I'm guessing the choice was wired ethernet+slow wifi or fast wifi but no ethernet.  My personal opinion is that wired ethernet is more important that fast WiFi.  Others will have differing opinions.  Mine comes from my personal preference as well as watching how many people a complaining about the lack of a wired interface on the Bambu printers.

Again, I just glanced at the data sheets and it's possible there is some pin function setup that allows the use of all three SPI ports, ethernet, and also doesn't cause functional constraints for other peripherals on the xBuddy board.  I generally doubt it though.  While nobody is perfect, it would be a huge oversight by the Prusa EE team to have missed it.  If it is there, I would guess there is some other constraint the made in unviable -- or it could have just be an oversight.  

Whatever the reasoning, given the current hardware design, things are what they are.

I can go either way on the speed, I wish we could send directly from the slicer to the printer. The saving and then dragging the gcode into the PrusaLink just adds more windows and dinking around.

We can send the gcode directly from the prusaslicer, it's what i do (lower right icon in prusaslicer, if you have a physical printer configured in prusaslicer.). However, it takes >5min for a 20MB file on a cabled gigabit network. It's even slower on the wifi.

Holy hell man, I didn't realize that.... I've only been 3d printing a little while. You just changed my life. LOL

I will have to work on that config tomorrow.

Just staretd reading through the issues in Github, and there's a very good explanation of the problem there: The network is connected to the microcontroller internally using a serial port. There's nothing Prusa could do about the speed, except designing a new logic board - which they probably won't do anytime soon.

I'd absolutely buy an upgrade to a new mainboard if they also included the capability to attach a USB web cam. The transfer speed is not optimal, but compared to the time the actual printing takes, it's really not something I'll lose sleep about.

This problem with speed.  still i dont have a time to try it, but maybe someone already did it.  Use Raspberry as a Mass storage USB drive. It can be old Zero W. with OTG cable.  maybe this solution also can handle RPi camera for PrusaLink. And wifi speed can be much higher.

here i found a article for that.

do you think it is possible ? and it is a safe for a printer ?
