Same 211 problem.  Bearing reposition fixed it.  Thanks!!!

RE:

Moving the bearing didn't help in my case - I still got the 211 error message. Upon inspection it was clear why - the bearing didn't even touch the back of the frame when the table was all the way at the back. What stopped its movement was the plastic part holding the lower belt - nothing I could do about it. I spent hours trying to get this working, got increasingly frustrated, and was about to give up - such an expensive printer and so many prople struggle to get it working...

But then I found a comment by someone in another thread and this also fixed the problem for me: Downgrading the firmware to 5.0.1. Voila: Y-axis test succeeded on the first attempt. I now upgraded to 5.1.0 and the (previously calibrated) printer is still working fine. Thus, not sure if this firmware version also has the problem or only the latest one.

RE:

This issue is not solved. I am now 3 months in and hundreds of wasted hours with support and this unsatisfactory printer still fails the y test every single time. How the fuck can you say this issue is solved? I fixed the bearing, i cleaned the bar, i tightened the belt, i downgraded the firmware and the problem is still there. How  is it solved if my thousand dollar 3d printer has still never printed a single thing. I used to be a fan of Prusa but now i absolutely hate them.

RE: Y-axis self test failing consistently

I have a brand new factory-assembled MK4 that occasionally fails Y self-test. I don't get it. Sometimes it travels to the rear and knocks on the stops gently a few times, and other times, it's a real banging session against whatever is the back stop. Sometimes it passes and other times it fails the self-test. I will look at the position of the bearing mentioned above. I'd do it now but it's printing.

For what it's worth, when I first booted the printer, the part cooling fan test failed. I tried a few times. The printer came with firmware 5.0.xx installed. I installed the latest (5.1.2?) and now the part cooling fan test is always good.

Just built my printer and i also get the dreaded 211mm y axis. Will go home this afternoon and try to resolve.

I'm running FW 5.1.2

RE: Y-axis self test failing consistently

Im just chiming back in here to mention i have fixed the printer and it now passes all checks ok.

I hope that prusa fixes this issue as a noob coming into building my first printer it was very hard to diagnose this issue as i saw the y axis coord get to 221 and just assumed it was ok. After an hour of troubleshooting last night it wasnt until sleeping on it i decided to put "Y axis 221" into google and came across this thread. I had a quick look on github and it doesnt appear that this has been raised as a bug just yet.

The latest Prusa firmware is much too sensitive on the Y axis, a lot of people have this problem, I don't understand why Prusa doesn't do anything. You will be able to test firmware 5.0.0 and your tests will pass without problem

Guys, I struggled with this too and disassembled the bed and Y-carriage, downgraded to 5.0,0, readjusted the bearings, adjusted the tension of the y-belt and so on.  All of these failed.  I feel your frustration.  Pink Clown came up with a brilliant solution and it worked.  Check this out:  https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/postid/690444/

RE: Y-axis self test failing consistently

I have a Prusa Bear MK4 and I encountered the same problems on the Y axis.I resolved these problems by limiting the travel on Y by 1.5mm and I therefore modified a part.It seems that the solution in your link is the same thing.

You will see the results here : https://github.com/gregsaun/prusa_i3_bear_upgrade/issues/138

RE: Y-axis self test failing consistently

Thanks a lot for your explanation! Got the 211 error out of the blue (well, after reinstalling the z-top left and right plastic part, bit that shouldn't have affected Y axis). Checked everything mentioned in the troubleshooting, belt tensioners, idler, belt tension with the guitar app , the bearings, but only your post gave the basic understanding of the error.

Repositioned the left front bearing about 1mm to the front plate - working perfect!

I'm hoping for the next firmware to handle it, because now my left front bearing is the bumper for the Y axis front stop. Will maybe result in replacing the bumper-bearing, but at least I can print again 🙂

Thanks again!

I guess what is important is whatever works to get past this Y-axis test issue. 😀

RE: Y-axis self test failing consistently

Agree with HoryAycardo.  Limiting the Y axis travel is the key.  I printed a 1.5mm thick clip and clipped it to the left Y axis rod.  Reran the calibration and it passed.

RE: Y-axis self test failing consistently

If this turns out to be the solution after months of frustration and Prusa saying I should ship the entire thing to Europe and back to fix it....i will lose it.

Im busy trying to fix another blob catastrophe on my mk3s+ and attempting ultimulti mod since i gotta take the damn thing apart anyway. I have a job and a life. I never expected this much craptastic troubleshooting or i would never have considered anything with Prusa.

Okay, with that piece of mass on the rod, you have limited the length of the Y-axis travel. And by the thickness of the ring, you already know how much it is needed. Well, now lay the printer on its side and focus on the two bearings on the left rod. Loosen the front left bearing mount and move it forward half the thickness of the ring and tighten it. Then go to the left rear bearing, loosen its fastening and move it back half the thickness of the ring and tighten. Remove that ring and try calibration. It should pass without a problem.

RE:

Why would i want to Adjust the bearing yet again which requires removing the whole print plate instead of just putting a little clip on the rod?  You should go work for Prusa support. You're great at suggesting a huge waste of time. I'm  printing a slightly extended rod holder for the front left instead of the little clip.  If it works ill put it on printables.

I can understand your frustration - but people here only want to provide help. No need to yell at them or spit in their face.

I tried yesterday and: you do not have to remove the heatbed completely.

Just lay the printer on the right side and move the bed completely to the back to get access to the two bearing holders on the left and the single bearing holder on the right side. Doable without disassembly.

You do not need to remove the bed to move the bearings slightly. You just need a ball end 2.5mm hex key.

RE: Y-axis self test failing consistently

And why should you remove the entire board? The bearing fixing screws on the MK4 can be accessed from below by turning the printer on its side. You just have to move the plate into the right position to reach the screws. And if you happen to have a printer upgraded from MK3 and have those unfortunate bent screws, the nuts can be loosened with a side wrench.

RE:

Didnt fix anything. The y axis doesn't even attempt to go to the front before failing. This machine is unsatisfactory. I hate prusa.
