Satin vs Textured 1st layer disappointed

I'm quite happy with the textured fininish, and when I had the Mk3S, I nerver changed because of the faff over changing sheets.

With the new mk4 auto Z calibration I thought I'd give it a go, since I'd prefer a flat effect for a cover for a 20x4LCD display. I thought the 1st layer would "squish" the lines togeather like the textured one does, But Satin plate 1st level comes out quite blotchly.

I think this may be the Z level needs to be manually adjusted down a tad as per some of the other topics. What do people think? (mk4, with MMU3)

The lines are going to be a lot more visible on the satin sheet, compared to the textured sheet. But yes, you can manually adjust the nozzle height by long-pressing the knob when the print starts. I usually didn't find this necessary with PLA but with PETG, ASA, etc, a small adjustment (e.g., -0.04) has helped.

Also check that the auto levelling isn't being thrown off by a loose nozzle, or suboptimal load cell calibration, or filament stuck on the nozzle...

Looks completely normal for the satin sheet.

Thanks, if thats normal then I will have to deal with it. Do people sand them down to get a flatter effect?

I actually prefer this look because it more closely matches the rest of the part.  With the textured sheet only the surface touching the sheet had a texture.  But to each their own

I don't mind the lines if the effect was uniform, its the inconsitant look I dislike.I wouldn't mind if the stipple effect around the parameter was consistent 😢 😢

I suppose the only way of making this better is a smaller nozzle? (using 0.4)

You can try to increase the value for "Extrusion multiplier" in the filament settings by a small value, e.g. from "1" to "1.02" or something like that. That would close the gaps between the lines a bit more. Experiment with this value.
