power panic, nothing works, cables fine, support brushing me off
I had purchased a assembled mk3s+ built into a "printer-box" enclosure a year ago and it came with a third party higher output power supply for planned upgrades like a NUC/screen/keyboard. It has the "power panic v0.4" board wired up on the 120v input and I have never had issues with it failing preventing resuming a print after power loss. Once I got the new mk4 kit delivered I printed all the parts with the mk3 and assembled it but I can't get it to work because of a persistent power panic error. I got the printer to work long enough to get calibration performed, after wiring up the "extended power panic cable" grounding the white wire to the negative terminal on the power input but then it went right back to having a power panic every time I turn it on. I checked the wiring, all the wires are fine.
It does this "double boot" where it loads the progress bar halfway, powers down completely, then goes to halfway again and throws a power panic error. It will load new firmware, and it will reboot when the spinny knob or reset button is pressed. No other behavior is observed.
I updated the firmware twice, first, with the 5.0.0 version provided on the USB device in the kit. Then with the 5.1.2 version as of 1/1/2024
Support apparently doesn't know what thier own power supplies look like, saying that "if you have the silver PSU you need the power panic extended cable" despite the PSU in the pictures I sent obviously not being Prusa supplied, and is ignoring half of what I say in my email cherry picking what to focus on and I really feel like they are trying to brush this off. They suggested solving the issue by purchasing the new PSU, and making a pull request on github to encourage the devs of the firmware to add an "no power panic" option.
I admit I didn't mention I tried the "extended cable" wiring but they really don't seem to be trying to help figure out what is going on.
Is it possible to use a third party power supply with the mk4 or am I REQUIRED to purchase the new PSU with the built in power panic feature? I personally think the issue is the control board, but I swear to god if support gives me another half baked response I will say something rude and I don't want to seem like I am demanding free stuff so I am hesitant to reply to the "do a pull request" email with "I think its the control board" a second time.
RE: power panic, nothing works, cables fine, support brushing me off
If I recall correctly, when I built my Mk3.9 I had similar issues, I had the original power panic lead, and a two wire extension.
to get me going, Prusa advised me to ground, the white wire from the power panic extension wire, to the PSU Ground terminal
they later sent me a different extension lead with a ground tab integrated into the white wire...
I have never fitted this extension, because I don't think power panic is worth the effort.
I also have my printers on a UPS.

RE:
Do you mean actual GND? Or the negative terminal next to the power panic pins? Should I unlink the bridge to NEG and attach it to GND? With the mk4 the "official" way to connect the power panic to a PSU without the built in pins is to bridge white wire to negative, not ground.
The mk4 cannot be used without power panic, it is not optional, it is not something that can be turned off. This is preventing me from using the printer.
