Newby Questions

I have a Mk4 on order and I am trying to think ahead to make the setup and learning as smooth as possible so I have a couple of questions that hopefully the collective knowledge on here can help me with

  1. Would it be a good idea to get extra nozzle sizes now or should I wait until I need them? If so what sizes? I think I understand when I would need to use different sizes (speed/quality trade off) but not sure how applicable that would be to a beginner.
  2. How noisy is a Mk4 in a Prusa enclosure? I would like to put it in a spare bedroom but if I am doing a long print that ended up going over night I am worried that it might keep the family awake

Many thanks for any advice

Pete

RE: Newby Questions

I wouldn't rush into anything. Get yourself comfortable with the new machine, then see what you need. A 0.6 or 0.8 mm nozzle may be useful if you print large models but it really depends on the models you intend to print. Same for a 0.25 nozzle, if you want to print stuff with intricate detail. Or consider a Prusa Obxidian nozzle if you want to worry less about the lifetime of your nozzle and/or intend to use abrasive filaments.

as far as the enclosure is concerned, my Mk4 is much quieter than my Mk3S, without any enclosure. If you put it in an enclosure I suggest you leave the door open for printing PLA, to avoid issues.

Thanks for that. I'll leave spare nozzles for now then.

RE: Newby Questions

You might consider ordering a few additional nozzles now or in the near future.  As of a few weeks ago, nozzles, adapters, and hot end parts seemed to be in short supply and were often out of stock.

My Mk4 is also at least as quiet as my Mk3s and I rarely hear it in the next room and sometimes when I'm in the same room.

Thanks. Good to know it will be quiet. I will have a think about the nozzles,  postage saving might make it worth buying now
