RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

Ugh.  Looks like I might have the same problem.  New MK4S Pre-assembled.   🙁

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

Hi,

No Wonder. It was just a matter of time before the first MK4S showed this issue (a look at the MK4S kit assembly manual reveals that they did not change anything on xLCD display cable installation procedure).

Improving to the MK4S Prusa was only interested by making money (Who needs NFC on a 3d printer ? A display that works efficiently is what people need !).

Solving complex technical issues seems not to be their priority.

Hi, don t be so hard. They have very good mechanical and software engineer. But not very aware of electromagnetic. They are replacing displays, but rhe problem’is only the ribon cable. Short solution is simply to separate individual cables or shield. Long terme is stopping using parallel communication between module and use serial. // bus must be shielded… and in modern electronic only used on motherboard.

Hi Lucas Quigna,

It's not to hard, it's realistic.

Simply replacing displays and ribbon cables, instead of sending properly shielded ribbon cables, to those who complain about this issue is not realy customer oriented.

Recognizing his mistakes and deal with the consequences is customer oriented.

Proposing an MK4 to MK4S upgrade (keeping the non-shielded ribbon cable), for 109 Euros, seems more profit oriented.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

I created this topic and want to tell you about my solution:
1. They sent me a new cable, after replacing it nothing changed, the problem remained.
2. They sent me a new display and another cable. But by the time I received it, the problem had solved itself and has not recurred in a year. The problem went away after printing with PETG plastic. I think that the power supply simply needed a higher load.

I have also (had) issues with my LCD. I have just chatted with the support team. After many suggestions they asked me to boot the printer with the LCD outside its cover. That seems to have done the trick. Apparently the LCD or the board its mounted on is very sensitive to "bending". Try to loosen up the screws holding the LCD cover together.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

I upgraded my MK3S+ to an MK4S. After the upgrade I printed 3 smaller parts with just minutes of print time. Every thing went without problems.
Next morning I started the first multi hour print job. After 10 minutes the screen went black. The printer finished the part fine. To bring the screen back to life I had to restart my printer. After a quick search I found this thread in the forum. After reading the thread, I decided to start with the least complex measure to solve the problem. I opened the display case and checked the connectors. They were all ok. Then I installed the screen into the case again and this time I tightened the 4 screws diagonally just a bit and repeated until all 4 screws were in place. I've now done multiple multi hour prints. So far the problem not came back. I use the PRUSA USB stick that was delivered with the upgrade kit. I installed all the cabeling excatly as written in the assembly instructions.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

Hi, as many pointed out it does seem to be a problem with interference affecting the ribbon cable.  Not sure why Prusa doesn't acknowledge that. I spent a while chatting to them online, I have extensive experience in designing electronics, they were polite but not very knowledgable, they insisted that replacing the ribbon cable will fix this issue. As someone noted earlier they make you fiddle with the cable until it is less affected by interference. Anyway, they posted a new ribbon cable. Interference usually comes from power cables rather than data cable and this is where ferrite cores typically go.  I put one of these https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ferrite-cores/4669120  on the power cable close to its connection to the printer mainboard. The problem with bank screen at boot time stopped, never reoccured since.  Months of happy printing. Everything is in original prusa enclosure. Replacement ribbon cable from pursa arrived a couple of months later.

RE:

After two days of assembling the printer, the screen started to turn off. I contacted support, and they had me perform several tests, but none of them worked. Clearly, they know what's going on, but I don't understand why they're not fixing the issue, especially considering how long it's been since the MK4 was released.

They told me they would send a new screen, but I am so disappointed. After having all my MK3S+ running flawlessly for years without any issues, and enjoying the experience of having a quality printer, unlike the typical Chinese printers that often require constant attention due to frequent failures, I feel like with my MK4, it's as if I bought a printer worth 200 or 300 USD.

Today, I'm left with the option of pulling the cable from the outside, unsure if that will actually fix the problem. This situation is also making me reconsider my future purchase of the Core One.
