RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

Your issue looks different from the issue I was having .  My issue was either a sever corruption of the screen  (nothing legible) or a totally black screen.  I have not seen partial missing information like you show in the image.

I had random black screens too.

Yesterday I disconnected and reconnected all connectors from Xbuddy board , reseated the fuses and checked all connections on love board. No issues after booting up but I already saw it is occurring randomly, so more testing need to be done in next days.

Hello

When you have a random behavior , it always a big mess, personally, I'll start to isolate the environment as root cause (temperature, vibration, electricity -> ground quality/EMI/CPL....) , and I'll will test the printer somewhere else.

RE:

It took me a few days to disconnect, inspect and reconnect all cables from Xbuddy board, loveboard , lcd. I also checked the fuses on the Buddy board and grounding connection between lcd - psu - buddy board with multimeter. All look good. I didn't find any issue.

After powering up the screen come like this:

After pressing the reset button, the screen loaded normally.

Yesterday the screen loaded normally. Today, the screen loaded with black screen, after pressing the reset button, the screen loaded normally.

I am not sure but I think the screen can show black / or partial screen after a long printer shut down (~12 hrs).

Next: I will try to test printer on different location.

I am having the exact same issue, the screen loads and looks normal, sometime the main menu shows, but as soon as it tries to show the preview of the previous project, the weird behavior appears : screen flashing white part of the menus showing or not showing, screen stays solid black or solid white.

I have turned on the printer with the side-cover of the x-buddy open, when I jiggle the cables the LCD reacts, I thought the nextruder cable was the culprit, so I unplugged it, restarted the printer : no difference. I plugged the nextruder cable back, restarded again and now, no matter what cable i jiggle, the screen stays black, it flashes white when i use the knob.

I did all this without the usb stick in place, nor the wifi module and no ethernet cable. I'm starting to think it's the x-buddy board itself that has a problem, but the printer has printed without flaw for a few days.

I am having this problem but only with 4.7.2 and 5.0.0.

For me, while printing, the screen either goes blank or the image of what is being printed gets partially or completely erased.

I have no problems with the display except when printing and the display is showing the item being printed with a progress indicator.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

I have MK4 since one month and yesterday expirienced same problem.

Screen started flickering and at some point only partially displaying menu, sometimes not responding at all.

I used Reset button to restart, however this didn't solve issue. I tried to move cables leading to display including connectors.

I had to do this couple of times before display started working properly.

What about static electricity? I think this could be also an issue as I feel small static charge accumulation after print on table.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

I think I have resolved my MK4 display problems. Like pretty much everyone on this thread I have had a laundry list of problems.

The problems include:

.  flat out blanking

.  flashes of all or parts of the screen

.  corruption of data on the the screen

.  reverse image of some portions of the screen

.  print status screen that compress the image of the print down to a single line

The above problems can occur totally autonomously or come on merely by touching the printer or twisting the control knob.

Enough of the problems. This stuff we already know.

I believe that my display problems were cleared by configuring the network access from wifi to ethernet.

I received my assembled MK4 on September 28.  I edited the printer config .ini file on my laptop on the 30th. I did not actually move the .ini file to the printer for several days.  I remember that I had several days of no problems with the display. Looking back I think my display problems started when the network setting was configured for wi-fi.  When the problems started they came on abruptly.  Some days the problems were so severe that the printer was totally unusable.  Other days I could get a print started but then had to hit reset over and over and over to be able to unload the filament.

I changed my network configuration from wi-fi to ethernet last Sunday.  I realized almost immediately that the display problems had gone away.  I waited a couple of days just to make sure before bringing it up here. BTW I have Rev A card and FW 5.0.0+12061.

If you are still having display problems try removing the wifi configuration.  It worked for me.

Report your results back on this thread.

Good luck,

Ray

The only way I can see that being the problem is interference of the screen and wifi but that in theory should mean touching the screen in spots that would normally do something should make it do something as the touch sensor is on top of the screen and not connected but as separate parts maybe something to test

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

I am running wired Ethernet on a factory assembled printer and I am having the same display problems.

So, I'm not sure it's a WiFi/Wired Ethernet issue.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

@ChiTownGuy, I am not sure either.

What I do know is that the display card in my MK4, in my environment, responded to the change of network access from wifi

to ethernet by working properly.

In the last three days I have accumulated 10 hours of print time in which I have not seen bad output of the display card. It does not make sense to me

why this is the case, but it works.

My printer is in my garage. Every time I pass by it and it is not printing I stop to power it up and twist the knob a few times. No problems going on three days now.

If the display continues to behave, in a few days I will switch back to wifi to see what happens.  For now I am enjoying my printer.

I also received my MK4 fully assembled and since I started using it all files were uploaded only with USB, ethernet or WiFi was never used before and I expirienced these problems once.

So really doubdtful that WiFi or Ethernet connection might be a problem.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

I had similar issues with LCD (blank, partially updated, reverse color image, reverse image) after I upgraded to MK3.9. I tried routing all motor cables not close to LCD cable, and after getting in touch with the support also tried re-seating both LCD cable connectors, but neither helped. It is decided that my LCD is faulty and they sent me a new one. I did not have any problem with the new LCD yet (and I routed the cables normal now, the motor cables are not far from LCD at the moment).

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

Hi,

Here is my update.

I have had this issue ever since I got the printer earlier this year, and although it was repaired under warranty to fix a different problem, Prusa never acknowledged the LCD blacking out. I think at some point the guy said it was just a visual inconvenience. At this time, the LCD goes out completely at times, and I have to reset the printer in order to get it back so I can use the menu. I plan to reach out to the support team again soon.

Regards,

gabriel

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

Little update on my case.

Yesterday I reached support and they adviced me to check cable connections leading to screen and control board.

So I planned to do this after my print will finish in morning. So far there was no improvements until I restarted printer in morning.

First after restart it didn't helped, but then I removed USB stick, switched off printer for 5 minutes and started again and issue with screen disappeared.

I'm pretty sure it's temporary as this happened already couple days before, but I'm just curious if this is software or hardware issue :-/

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time

Hi folks,

Here what I've done three month ago after encountering twice this issue.

First I contacted support who send me a new display board (Version A, mine was B). But, sharing Ifachaux’s opinion about an ESD issue, instead of replacing the display I first decided to try the shielding of the display’s rubber cable by use of copper tape and Kapton tape, each end of the copper tape connected to ground (green wires on pictures)

Up to day, three month later with 39 days of real printing time, the issue didn’t occur again !

It would be wise to confirm this solution. Its not for beginners. So if some of the other MK4 Kit owners want try this solution, go ahead.

If the result can be duplicated uninitiated may also benefit 😉 ...

I’d be happy to elaborate on that.

RE: Mk4 screen goes blank after some time
