Souhlasim stejne U petg sem vyresil teplotou filamentu 220 stupnu. Ale hruza.....PLA neresitelne.....

I did not print from PLA for ages, will try the stringing with my super old Prusa PLA galaxy black. Using Slicer 2.6.1  MK4 2.4 profile, let you know.

I have been finding that I have to raise the temps at least 10°C to get less stringing. I am starting to wonder if the cooling duct is cooling the nozzle and the print. If the heating block thinks it is 210, but the nozzle is cooled down and the filament is getting cooled as it goes down, that could be a problem. I have a sock coming from AliExpress and will see if that helps any.

I reported it as a bug on github, not sure if it will help or not. Please add comments also there: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/3267 The more people will report it, the higher chance someone will take a look at it.

I've now got 3 MK4 machine and all of them have the same issue with stringing. It's very fine, wispy stringing, but a LOT of it that doesn't occur on my Bambu machines, nor the MK3S+ machines I have. 

The Prusa XL does have the same kind of wispy stringing, although not quite as much. 

I've tried everything -

  • drying filament - I always dry filament (PLA) before printing at 60 degrees C for 6 hours
  • lowering the temp (which seems obvious), which doesn't do anything until it's so low it clogs
  • raising the temp - nope, just made the stringing actual thick strings
  • messing with retraction length and speed - no changes there
  • z hop on/off - no change
  • wipe on retraction - no differences

 

Honestly at this point I have no clue, and I'm pretty unhappy with the MK4 and XL so far. I expected Prusa to step up their game and show us why they're the best choice, but unfortunately it's been pretty disappointing.

I'm a Prusa Mk4 Kit owner and I have this problem too.

Using Prusa Slicer latest version as well as latest firmware in printer, default profiles for PLA(green) and PETG(black) and got this:

 

The first layers seems ok!

 

Is this happening with all Prusa MK4? Should we contact Prusa support or Prusa already say something about this?

Did you try to talk with prusa chat? Since you have multiple machines, maybe they will pay more attention?

Today Prusa released the 5.0.0 firmware for the MK4. I had used the RC version, but switched back to the stable version to work with my stringing. Well after a firmware update I ran the Cali Dragon print. Well when I switched to Generic PLA and went to adjust my temperature to 220C, I saw that it was already 220C and the first layer was now 230C. It is now changed to this in PrusaSlicer. The stringing was mild and very controllable, just some tiniest of threads. I guess that they are working on this problem. I will have to do some more tests to see what it does on my other filaments.

Did you try to talk with prusa chat? Since you have multiple machines, maybe they will pay more attention?

Contacting Prusa seems a good idea.

I tried it last week in hope they have an idea but they just gave me the respective knowledge article. 

They couldn‘t do more as i hadn‘t access to my printer and they need a 3mf-file and a photo the respective print… 🤪

Best would be if someone could send images of the two prints and the respective 3mf for mk4 and mk3s.

Unfortunately i can‘t do that because i already sold my mk3s…🤦🏻‍♂️

Yeah I’ve got 15 Prusa machines, that doesn’t make a difference. Support typically acts like I’ve never printed anything before.

- Reducing Nozzle Temp ?

I'm new to PrusaSlicer and the MK4, not to 3d printing or CuraSlicer.

I'm trying to calibrate my localy sourced PLA (Argentina) to reduce stringing, tried adding retraction from the 0.8mm default in generic PLA, no luck, tried other PLA Brands to try my luck, nope. Went to 1, then 2 in the retaction value, no luck either. Rest of the parameters are stock, as I don't want to change more than one paramenter at a time.

What do you suggest?

I get my best results with the v6 adapter and v6 nozzle x.  I do not have any luck at all with Prusa nozzles and clearing strings.  Only getting to the mega fine ones here and there and brushing them off.

If you have a silicone sock on the nozzle, this would be the explanation.  Did you tell the printer the sock is fitted ?

I find that very interesting.  You see, when it was impossible to buy original Mk4 nozzle, I used regular V6 nozzle and the adaptor.  And I found that this resulted in oozing an blobbing from the nozzle, when installed correctly using heat.  It's impossible to get the right tension on tightening the nozzle, nobody owns a torque wrench that does 1.5 Nm !!  I'm afraid to tighten the nozzle too much, because PS told me that it's possible to strip the heat block thread if tightened too much.

When I later was able to purchase the ObXidian nozzle Mk4 version, it works much better, and I do not get the stringing problem people complain about here.  Really, stringing is a filament/slicer issue.  I have significant doubt its  the printer.  I am using ObXidian Nozzle with Prusa Silicone Sock on it, and the firmware setting for this has been made.

Wow ! thats hot for PLA.  Are you certain that your temp sensor is functioning within specification ?

Now I am wondering if this whole issue is related to part specification drift in the temp sensors, which would explain why some people are reporting it, and (many) others are not.

I hear you... I have no idea if the temp sensor is functioning within spec. I track the temperature and the number that is reported is always +/- 1-2 degrees, but who knows if that absolute value is correct or not.

I put a sock on it (lol), and it didn't help but it did teach me about the need to turn on the sock button in the FW.

Another data point: I switched from a 0.4mm nozzle to a 0.25mm nozzle. printing prusament PLA with the default PLA profiles for prusament with the 0.25mm nozzle results in layers that easily separate from each other. Even raising the temp by 20 degrees still doesn't help.

This whole MK4 experience is taking my back to my Ender 3 days where everything was random and finding a root cause needed a PhD thesis. Big time disappointment. Going from Ender 3 to MK3s+ was like utopia... going from MK3s+ to MK4 is very frustrating.

I am still waiting on my sock to come from China. There is no telling when it will get here. I already know about changing the settings for a sock.

You are a printer, you can have  everything 😉 

Because you can measure them, they are amazingly accurate to set.
