Linear bearings

Hi!

Does anyone know what brand are MK4 linear bearings?

I ordered a MK4 kit and I wonder if I should buy Misumi bearings instead of those that are given with new printers since few years?

My first MK3 has Misumi bearings, but it seems that they changed the sourcing and they are not good anymore.

Thanks! Have a good day! 🙂

RE: Linear bearings

Hello,

my MK3S had been delivered with Misumi Brand linear bearings (with Laser engraving and saying "Made in Vietnam").

One of these bearings failed and scratched a rod after some time.

So, these bearings are also not 100 % failure free. Other possibility is, Prusa themselves got delivered counterfeit bearings...

I ordered a MK4 kit, too.

As you have warranty on your Printer, i would not make such modifications from the beginning. Use the bearings that come with the kit.

They said 90 % of all MK3 parts have been modified / improved.

They certainly will not deliver worse bearings than in the past. That would cause massive complaints for them.

Seeing reviews of bearings that they are actually selling, they seem to have changed from Misumi to an unknown source… And I bet they will continue to sell them, and that’s the standard with new printers (and so for the MK4).

indeed, my rods have been scratched after some time, but it was my fault as I tightened too firmly the screws holding x carriage.

I turned by 45° the X rod and released the screws by a little, and since everything is ok: no marks, no noise…

I think it’s easier to change rod and bearings during the construction of the printer than later.

RE: Linear bearings

Tried to post a video of the noise the bearings make but it's too large and it won't let me edit or delete my post, sorry.

Would also like to know what the best bearings are - preferably ones that need no maintenance!

Seems logical to install them while building the kit, but otherwise I'd just go stock and continue to wipe any dust and re-grease the rods every now and then.....

It's useless to re-grease the rods as bearings have a seal that keeps the grease in and blocks the dust. So yes, maybe I need to buy Misubi rods and bearings to replace them before assembly. I think they are selling worst bearings and rods as before to save money.

RE: Linear bearings

Ah gotcha. I may just pack the bearings with some grease using the supplied tool before install in that case - I didn't with my MK3s+ as the manual said they are pre-greased, but regretted it after!

Is a Misubi rod and bearing kit available of rtes MK4?

It will be a known fact by now that all Chinese copies cannot compete with the original brands.

Whichever bearing you choose, they all need maintenance.

Some a little more than others.

@iftibshir: I don’t think so yet, you have to buy good length of each rod and fitting bearings… :/

@René: of course they need maintenance, but very less than copies… with good lubrification and no gap between rods and bearings, it may stay in good shape for long! At least I hope.

Bit I think earring some rattling or others noise is not a good sign regarding quality of bearings they put on MK4… My 3 years old MK3s with Misumi bearings (I degreased and re-regreased bearings before assembly) never made those kind of rattle even when bumping speed at maximum…
