First layer consists of single strings, PETG
Hello forum,
I currently have problems with the first layer. The printer is a self assembled mk4 with firmware 5.0.0.
In the layer the single strings are not melted (see picture).
Filament is PETG,
- nozzle temp 235°C
- bed temp around 80°C
- layer height 0.2mm
These settings normaly work on my mk3. Filament is from Azure film.
I aleady tried different temperatures, but without success. Does anyone has an idea?
Thank you,
Kai

From the picture it looks like the perimeter is also not sticking/has moved. Is this specific to PETG, or do you see the same with PLA? If you're having problems with PLA too, it would make me think about the load cell or the thermistor. What sheet are you using? On the textured sheet I found I had to lower Live Z manually once the print starts by about -0.020 or so to get good adhesion and a good first layer. You also want to make sure your nozzle is really clean, or the load cell will be unhappy (I'm not impressed with the built-in "nozzle cleaning" procedure at the beginning of prints).

Hi Fuchr, you are right. It is an textured sheet and I had to enter an offset of -0.1 to get better results. An offset of -0.02 was not sufficient.
Thank you very much and greetings from Planegg.

I had actually thought that I would no longer have to adjust the offset on the MK4 ... 😐

Yeah, didn't we all... ☹️ May work fine on a smooth sheet — but I haven't used one in years. It seems a bit better on satin sheets but I've lost all confidence now and watch the first layer go down, something I don't have to do with my Mk3S and Mini printers.
