RE: Display not centered properly / cutout too small?

I had a nice chat with the Prusa, I sent also the link to this topic. The quality team should take a look at it. Let's hope it will be quick. It's a very easy solution, just redesign that platic cover and make the cutout a little bit bigger. It's one click in the CAD software. However I understand, they have some stock of printed parts and they cannot change the design just like that.

I received new LCD + new LCD cover but it's even worse.

😂

Sorry. Got nothing more to say.

Well yeah.... Not much to say...

The only explanation to that situation is: nobody noticed this scrollbar and all Prusa users have this "issue". Or maybe someone can publish a picture with the scrollbar visible?

Could you maybe post a picture of the LCD pcb so that we can see how well the Display is aligned between those white markings on the circuit board? And can you compare the old and the new cover? Is there a difference?

I think I'm gonna order myself an MMU3 and make a modified version of the printed part myself in case Prusa doesn't get this resolved. 😅

At this point in time I think this is quite possible. But I'm wondering if even the firmware developers didn't notice it with their testing machines.

The old LCD cover and the new one is exactly the same. Maybe there is like 0,1 mm difference, but it may be print imperfection.

Here are the pictures of the replace unit.

RE:

I also have the scroll bar hidden under the right hand side. Out of interest I've just taken my display apart to have look.

Measuring the LCD with a steel rule (the bit inside the black outer boarder) and the window cutout of "xlcd-cover-R3.stl" in PrusaSlicer shows that the window is too small. LCD is 74mm x 49mm, window is 72mm x 47.5. So the window is too small by 2mm width and 1.5mm height. On my machine the Left and Top are aligned ok but the window needs to be 2mm wider on the right and 1.5mm at the bottom.

Please contact prusa support 😉 But please tell them, not to send new LCD as it's not LCD fault 😀

But did you consider that the cutout doesn't need to be as large as the glass of the display? The active display area is a little bit smaller than the total glass area.

I belive so, (the bit inside the black outer boarder) not the total glass area. As in you picture which shows the scroll bar at the edge of the black boarder.

Oh well. You're right. I just reviewed my own pictures. Indeed the active display area seems to extend to the black border.... which actually makes the wrongly designed cutout even more obvious.

I guess they designed it a little bit smaller on purpose though to make room for tolerances in the positioning of the display. But I think they overdid it. Regarding both the bad toleranced of the display and the size reduction of the cutout.

For what it's worth I've emailed Prusa with my findings and refered them to this thread.

I never noticed the scroll bar before. I do not think I changed the footer so never noticed a screen cutoff.  But sure enough, it is.  If I look from the side I can see the scroll bar.  My time does not get cut off at the top right corner though.

RE:

As you say, they may have made the cutout a bit smaller to allow a greater tolerance for LCD assenbly etc, if this is the case they should reduce the area used for the graphics, then we might be able to see it all. Changing the display code could be a simple way for Prusa to fix it.

So this is exactly what we think. Most likely all MK4 are affected.

AND xl I'm pretty sure
