Clogged hotend (?)
During the sixth or seventh print (with PLA only) the extruder stopped extruding. I opened the idler door and I can see a tip of filament looking out from below but not enough to grab it with pliers. Heating up and trying to push fails. The nozzle is clean as the needle goes almost all the way in from below. With my MK3S I would know what to do. Can anyone advise what I could try? The published help is poor so far (unlike what I am used to from MK3S) And a quick guide how to do a cold pull on the MK4 would also be great. Presuming that I am not the only non-pro here. thx

Check the fan wiring on the extruder break out board. I was having the same problems and my hot end and part cooling fan were swapped when assembled. I have seen another post on this.

Did you hear any clicking with yours? I just got mine today and have tried 2 prints and after a little bit I noticed a slight click and the extruder was no longer pushing filament. When I pulled out the filament I noticed that there are a handful of groove marks on the side of it, I also ran the needle through all the way up to the coiling on the needle( inch or 2). I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the adapter and nozzle X i put on it. I'll have to try again with the original brass tip that came installed and see if that fixes anything.

I had this problem also. Extruder did not extrude, filament strand was crooked inside the extruder gearbox, broken off and a little bit stuck out of the tube, not enough to push it in or to pull it out with pliers. I took out the hotend and used a 1.5 mm drill bit carefully(!) to get out one or two mm of filament out of the top of the tube. Then I put the hotend back into the printer, heated it up and I could push new filament in. I used a screwdriver handle with a drillbit chuck that I have for cleaning out holes in prints. It gives me finer control than a motorized drill that is often too quick.

I've successfully pulled out the top of the stuck filament by carefully using a dental explorer or other fine pick and 'grabbing' and gently prying upward.
As long as the stuck filament is totally on the 'cold' side of the hot end, it will usually move enough to get it out.
If it does not, you can heat the hot end to above the normal operating temperature, let it sit so the heat will work upward, and try the prying and grabbing again.
Occasionally you will get into a situation where the easiest and fastest fix is to disassemble the extruder and hot end and manually chase it out, but most cases I've seen like this can be corrected without any major surgery.
