Rough side of the 3D Benchy

Hi, trying to print the 3d Benchy (0.1 mm layer, PLA Silk) I noticed that part of  one side of the external surface is rough especially on one side of the bow. Shape of it doesn't lead to obvious reason for that. Printing with larger layer value will help in reducing magnitude of the defect. Prusa support failed to identify the root cause during my 4 reports to them . Any ideea, please?

Silk PLA often disappoints.  People who use it tend to be obsessed with cosmetic qualities, hypervigilant for minor defects but can't be bothered to post process.

In general, if you want shiny, perfectly smooth objects expect to fill, sand, paint and polish your prints.

However, many silk PLA filaments print better if slowed down and extruded at a slightly lower temperature than regular PLA - try 5°C lower and 85% speed.

Cheerio,

Tried it and result is significantly worse, the affected area has enlarged.

So if dropping the temperature worsened the result perhaps raising it will help...  Every filament is slightly different, you are using benchies to tune your settings for that particular brand.  Low layer heights are always harder to print well, it's rarely worth going below 1.5mm with a standard nozzle.

Indeed, switching to 0.15 mm structural and lowering the speed improved significantly. Raising the temperature didn't really help neither with 0.1 mm layer as I started from.
