MK3.5 perfect first layer?

I have a MK3.5 and a MK4.  I love the MK4 as I feel it is more efficient and way less bulky on the hot end (way less weight with the pancake motor) and losing the pinda sensor for leveling.  I do like the perfect first layer is it uses the same principles as motor stalling in the X & Y, at least that is my interpretation of it as it uses the nozzle to sense pressure (motor stall) and backs off.   This is fantastic on so many levels.

As I upgraded to the MK3.5, I now have the same Xbuddy board and LCD as the MK4.  The perfect first layer was never mentioned as an option in the 3.5, but why not?  Is there something else inside the "Nextruder" that allows this cool feature?  I had assumed it was in the motor stall similar to the X & Y?

Please let us know as I am curious to see if this is in the works by the Prusa team, or if its not possible due to other limitations (or new hardware in Nextruder).  Thank you!

I'm also interested about this. I have a MK3S+ bought 2 years ago and I'm more pleased about it. I only do to make random useful things around the house. The only interesting feature from MK4 is the 'perfect first layer'. I will love that thing to not be needed to setup this after I change my nozzle or printing sheet...

The MK4 does not use a motor stall to detect the print bed.  It has a completely different sensor built into the nextruder, which is designed to measure nozzle pressure.  You can't recreate this with the 3 series printers, so you have to use the pinda.  Personally, I have found the pinda to be just as reliable as the MK4 in giving you a good first layer, once you have it calibrated.  The MK4 can give false results if there is filament stuck to the nozzle that doesn't push out when it does it's cleaning routine.  So, unfortunately, there is no way to get a first layer measurement like the MK4 on any MK3.

As a XL and MK3S+ owner I agree. The XL is “quick and easy” until it isn’t. Once you have the MK3S+ tuned in, it’s the chef’s kiss. 😘 Always set, unless you change the sheet. 😉
