Where should you post a problem with a Prusa I3 Mk2s to get someone interested

Hello. I am faced with a strange and very problematic phenomenon. I specify that I am a beginner in 3d printing. My printer is the Prusa I3 Mk2s and the PrusaSlicer Prusa 2.3.0.
My impression is good, but suddenly the printer stops printing the file? This is curious, because the printhead continues to "wander" as if it were chasing another print, but without extruding ???? Who would be so kind as to give me a clue to understand what's going on. No help from the technical department of Prusa who seems to consider that the old models of printers are no longer of interest ...

Probems related to the Mk2s I'd guess should go here... https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-original-prusa-i3-mk2-s/

It sounds like the print is still in progress as you say the print head carries on moving. Is this the same file, or every file? Perhaps the one you're using is corrupt?

@cynan

Thank you. The problem is also that the forum specific to the Prusa I3 Mk2s is not very well followed ... It is with several files ... it seems that the end of printing happens prematurely. Maybe PrusaSlicer doesn't work well with MK2S? I am unfortunately not competent enough to see if the G-code file contains instructions not recognized by the MK2S ... As I said, users of old "Prusa" models are no longer very interesting. .. Thank you

See if you can get @joantabb's attention. She's got experience with the Prusa printers back to the MkI.

Hi Hiram,
you have My attention...

the Mk2 is fairly old now. but still should work Ok...

I have a Mk2 with MMU1 at home, but I am exiled due to Covid restrictions, so I have not had the opportunity to try Prusa Slicer 2.3.0 with the Mk2.

what temperature are you trying yo print at?
If it's a low temperature, you may be hitting the low temperature extrusion prevention restriction.

If I recall correctly, the default low temperature is 170C, it is possible that if you are trying to print at say 175C, and haven't done a PID Tune at that temperature, the nozzle may drop below 170C and stop extruding...

Or, it is possible that with a lot of use, the wires to your extruder motor may be faulty, and that can stop the extruder turning...   do you have an extruder visualiser? Mine shows that the extruder shaft is turning... because the visualiser is easy to see on the end of the motor shaft outside of the extruder.

or it is possible that the 'Hobbed wheel' on the extruder shaft, has come loose, there is a small grub screw that is supposed to secure the hobbed wheel on the extruder motor shaft.

Or, early Mk2's had Brass hobbed wheels, this could have worn smooth with use,  and therefore not driving the filament,
or the tension on the pressure roller may be too low, allowing the filament to slip.
or there might be a Blockage in the extruder causing the filament not to feed.
But I expect this was the first thing you checked.
regards Joan

Hello and thank you. (I am French-speaking which explains my poor English.)
I print at 200 degrees because setting up the Prusmament Galaxy Black is already very complicated to set up. I am not the only one to think that I read it on the social networks of the forums
The machine has no wear because since I bought it I have printed only one spool of PLA that came with the machine!
I wonder if the PrusaSlicer is not sending instructions that would be understood by the MK3 and which would be the source of error with the MK2s ????
I wonder if there isn't a G-Code instruction that demolishes printing.
I'm ashamed but I don't know what "PID tuning" is ...
On the other hand, the toothed wheel of the extruder has been checked and it is perfectly fixed.

Here's a (very short) Prusa write-up on the PID tune procedure.

@hiram

Hi Hiram, your English is Much better than My French!

have you selected the Mk2 profile in configuration wizard in prusa slicer?

I am printing Galaxy Black at 215C on my mk3S
for interest sake, can you try a print at the higher temperature of 215C please?
when  the filament is not extruding, is the extruder motor shaft turning?

@joantabb

Hello Joan and thank you for your precious help.
I believe the problem I had never encountered is with the "Prusament Galaxy Black" filament
This filament is inflexible and expands from the spool like a spring.
I have found that this wrong way of exiting the spool results in placing the turn of the filament that goes to the extruder UNDER the following turns of filament on the spool and this results in a choke knot.
Have a good day

@joantabb

Hello, finally this is something else and a serious mystery.
I just made a quality impression for my taste.
Suddenly on the LED display the message is: 100% completed, therefore, it considers that the part has been completely printed?
But as you can see in the photos the part is not printed !!! ????
It would be a problem with the slicer ???? With the G-code ???
Please help me by giving me a lead!

RE: Where should you post a problem with a Prusa I3 Mk2s to get someone interested

Hello.
it still doesn't work, i had to change the ptfe tube.
Unfortunately new problems have arisen and I think my previous problems are that the machine thinks it is at an XYZ coordinate while physically it is at ANOTHER XYZ coordinate.

I have a big problem with my Prusa I3 Mk2s. If I do configuration :: selftest or calibration :: calibrate XYZ, does the extruder block crush (hit) the heating bed? However if I move this block with settings :: move axis :: move Z, I can stop the movement of the head by placing a metallic object under the Pinda probe which obviously works!
I then did a reset to return to factory settings. When finished, I have a message on the LED display "would you like me to help you prepare the printer"? The following sequence appears:
Side fan test: Ok
Front fan test: OK
Bed test: Ok
Then test X: Ok, test Y Ok, Test Z: and there ... horror, the printhead crushes the heated bed.
I think the Y axis is so shifted that the Pinda probe is out of the heat bed surface!
As you can see in the photos: The LED display shows X = 0 but the printhead is well above the heated bed? I think the printer thinks it is at an XYZ location but in reality it is elsewhere (another XYZ)
Sorry for my very poor English.
Help ! I need help there!

Hi Hiram,
you're not having a good time.
from the picture above the right hand side of the X axis looks lower than the left hand side...
have you looked at the knowledge base for the Mk2 series?

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/tag/mk2s/

possibly  start with the Preflight test!

regards Joan
