When is a design a remix?
I have just designed an insert for an Ikea 365+ food container to store two filament spools.
I found this design https://www.prusaprinters.org/de/prints/78434-ikea-365-box-106-liter-filament-dry-box-mit-2x-sil
In its licence agreement it does not allow remixes.
I did a complete redesign of the whole model and made several parts of the original design. I would say that I was inspired by this model and took the rough layout of the original.
Is this a new design or just a remix?

RE: When is a design a remix?
It's not a patent protecting an invention. If you reverse engineered it and didn't use the original STL to remix it, you're good. However, I would give the original designer a nod by pointing out that your design was "inspired by xxxx".

RE: When is a design a remix?
I'll give a nod to another designer if I was inspired to make something similar to their work. I did that with a solder fume extractor fan I designed. The original designer was actually inspired by another design I hadn't even known about so I gave credit to both of them.
However, the design I created was based strictly on my own measurements and my extractor hood is completely different.

Thanks for your answers.
To mention and put a link to the original design was also my intention.
