Weight of Prusament PETG spool

Hi,

I've been searching for information about the weight of an empty spool of my Prusament PETG. I want to estimate the amount of filament that is still left on the spool. I've ordered mine 2 weeks ago and it has the hexagon pattern.

Are there any data about the spool?

Greetings Daniel

RE: Weight of Prusament PETG spool

not exactly the answer you want Daniel,
my new spool prusament galaxy purple weighs 1264grams including bag and silica gel pack. the box says 1027grams filament so ..

  1264
- 1027
=  237
grams for spool, bag and silica gel
so I would suggest if you weigh the remaining roll and subtract 237g you will slightly underestimate what is left!
(assuming my scales are good!)  😀

Joan

Thanks a lot. At least I have a good basis for estimating what is left. 🤗

Slicer states that the next print should use about 170 g of filament. Let's hope that the estimatation of what is left isn't to close to this. 😓

I already ordered new prusament, but I guess it won't arrive before mid of next week.

Off topic: Am I suggesting right that my PRUSA MK3S will detect when running out of filament and will pause printing? Will it print the part reliably after inserting new filament and how much time do I have for the reload on PETG? Will the heatbed stay heated? Do I need extra options?

To many questions for this thread. Thanks in advance.

Greetings Daniel

You can enter the spool ID of prusament spools at the following link and  it will calculate the remaining filament for you.  Each Prusament spool has a unique ID and entering it will give you specific reference information.

To follow up, you can see on the spool information that under the weight it will show you the weight of your spool. I don't have any of my spools on hand, so here is the weight of the sample spool:

There is also little measure on the inside of the spool allowing for easier guesstimate on how much is left just by looking.

I've found subtracting 250 grams for spool weight is a fair estimate of most any spool, regardless of brand.

Yeah, if I don't have a weight from the manufacturer, that is the value I use. Once there is around 100g to 50g left on a spool it is fairly easy to remove the remaining filament and use it as if it were a sample. Then one can weigh just the filament to know if there is enough left to print that last little thing-a-ma-bob.

Granted, Proto-pasta spools are uniquely light... I use 100g to tare for those spools.

Oh, thats nice. Thank you! My spool has the following stats:

weight: 1044 g filament + 201 g spool

length: 343 m

The scale showed a weight of 467 g. The left filament on my spool should weight around 266 g.

Referring to the stats of 1044 g and 343 my left filament should be around 87 m long. The mark on the inside of the spool shows ~81 m so I'd guess the data are coherent.

Thank you all for your support.

Where is this "Spool ID"? The human readable text on my silver spool says:

51 / 01.04.2020 / L3 / 1

The barcode says:

Data Matrix: "050170000 F 1,75 PLA silver";75;1;51;01.04.2020 8:27:23;19602;L3;

I'm not seeing anything helpful on the spool or https://prusament.com/#check-spool site, such as an example string.

Thanks. It appears my box and spool don't have those labels and nothing more than what I put above. Mine lacks any label with QR codes, etc. and this kind of makes me look stupid, but now you see where I'm coming from. The spool has the same label. This was the spool that came bundled with my printer kit. So it appears it's "Prusa-provided" basic filament (Prusa Research box) and not "Prusament." I guess.

RE: Weight of Prusament PETG spool

I believe that is filament made for Prusa by another company.

not Prusament.

take the roll out of the packing, and weigh in grams. it will probably weigh about 1250 grams (Gross weight), the net filament is about 1000 grams (Nett Weight), so the spool will be the difference between the gross weight and the nett weight - probably about 250 grams.

while on the subject of petg and rolls is there less length on average of petg to pla?

I seem to be getting less out of a roll, so it must weigh more?

Yes, PETG is a bit heavier. 1.24 g/cm^3 vs 1.27 g/cm^3
