Vase Mode

What is the advantage of Vase Mode? I have made a number of vases and never used it (did not know it was available) but what am I missing by not putting it in "Vase Mode"?

RE: Vase Mode

In Vase Mode the print is continuous from start to finish, so there are no seams.

Also, see https://help.prusa3d.com/article/layers-and-perimeters_1748

Of course, the forum software wouldn't let me update my previous post...

Thanks for the reply! Now that IS of interest and something I will try. When you select the Vase Mode it asks to make other changes as well. When you unselect it does it replace the changed setting back?

RE: Vase Mode

It should. But then again, I really don't have use for vase mode myself so I'm not sure,  haven't used it enough to remember.

I've found it quite useful. Quality is increased if you can live with the restrictions. Pretty sure it doesn't change things back if you deselect it.

It really needs a different name than vase mode, because it has other practical uses besides vases and single wall containers.  Continuous extrusion might be better.

RE: Vase Mode

When I print models using Spiral Vase Mode I like to change the Extrusion Width. For vases I usually use 0.8 with a 0.4 nozzle. I have gone as high as 1.2 but it doesn’t look as good.

RE: Vase Mode

The model I posted above, I print with a 0.6mm nozzle at 1.20mm extrusion width.  I have been pretty happy with it, but it's also a utilitarian tool holder.

RE: Vase Mode

Another advantage of vase mode is that it's far better at being water tight, if that's of importance to you. Vase mode has no seams and the seam is usually what leaks water.

RE: Vase Mode

The biggest perk is definitely the lack of a Z-seam! Since it prints in one continuous spiral, you don't get that vertical line or 'scar' where the layers start and stop. It's also way faster and uses less filament, though you do trade off some strength since it's only one wall thick. Great for decorative stuff!
