Upload of 3mf files
Please, please… for the love of god, please allow users to upload 3mf files without compressing them first!
I just answered the umpteenth request for help with "please upload a 3mf file but DON'T FORGET TO ZIP IT FIRST". Okay, I have a macro for it now but still, in this day and age of advanced storage technologies, zipping files to save a handful of bytes feels utterly archaic. What is the default response to 95% of all forum posts? " Redo your live Z"…"Clean your steel sheet with soap and water"… and "Upload your 3mf file so we can check your settings". Not much you can do for the first two, but allowing 3mf files to be uploaded directly without having to explain how to compress them would go a long way.
Sorry for the rant but this is beginning to grind on me as it is so utterly unnecessary.

RE: Upload of 3mf files
This is typically a security setting that limits uploads to specific file types. It's designed to keep people from running malicious code. I am not aware of any 3mf exploits, but it is wise to keep this limited.
RE: Upload of 3mf files
Sure, but you can upload 3mf files in Zipped format, so the security argument goes out of the window right there.

RE: Upload of 3mf files
Not really. I have been working in that field for close to 30 years and would say it is impossible to run code from within a zip file while uploading to a forum. Granted, 3mf is not what we have in mind when promoting these rules.
RE: Upload of 3mf files
interestingly, I believe a .3mf file is actually a Zipfile format.

RE: Upload of 3mf files
It is. You can rename the file to .zip and then open it to view its contents.

RE: Upload of 3mf files
This is true!
RE: Upload of 3mf files
That wasn't a rant, it was a mature and reasonable request, a response to an unreasonable situation. I'm starting to believe Prusa has found some way to make or save money by limiting the ability for users to answer user questions here, I mean why not just go to Reddit, Facebook or twitter and get some lame ass advise there? they don't have to host a server that way or pay for storage that they delete without warning. .3mf could be a thing of the past, and people could just pay extra for the prusa courses, and only learn what prusa wants to teach.
Hmm, seems to make sense, the forums don't really seem very active lately.

Now that was definitely rantish, if true.
I shall be going to TCT 3SIXTY in a few days time: https://tct3sixty.com/
I think I'll raise this with the Prusa team at the show.
Cheerio,

Perhaps we should both raise the issue.
I arrive late on the 8th, probably too late to visit the show that day but I have a hotel booked so I can spend the whole of the 9th there starting fresh.
Cheerio,

Great news. Thanks for your efforts.
...So: At the show I spoke to Mikolas Zuza, brought up this issue and watched him send a message to the web development team...

RE: Upload of 3mf files
5-6 months later and it's still an issue. I tried to upload a .3mf file just a few minutes ago. Total size was 96k, but the forum software told me I couldn't upload it and referenced the size. (Specifying a limit of 150 - don't remember if it was m or k.) But once I zipped the file, there was no issue with it.
Not complaining or ranting, just passing on information.
