Tungsten filament, about how many meters in 1kg spool?

I'm trying to understand cost for making something using the 75% tungsten by weight filament.  I can't find anywhere how many meters per kg there would be in a spool.  Could someone help me out with this?  On the product page, it does not have this information.  Due to the weight of tungsten, there will be a lot less meters per spool, and this is understandable.  However, it would be useful for cost estimation, to know how many meters are on a spool, so using the slicer I can get a cost estimate per print.

in the technical datasheet it says that the density is 4gm/cm3

which I estimate  equates to 104metres of filament in a 1kg roll

Thanks for your estimate.  I ended up calculating it myself from the density you gave and came up with a similar number - 103.94 m, close enough to 104 m.

For some reason, my math brain wasn't working the other day.  Got it working today 🙂

I don't have decimal fingers and toes.... everyone in the close was needed to calculate 104, as it was...      they didn't mind full digits, but they declined to go to two decimal places...

Had not heard of this stuff before, but now found that it is a new super special PRUSAMENT for radiation shielding 😀

Does it enable me to build my own small personal nuclear reactor 🤣 ?

No, but it may stop your tungsten prints being irradiated when you do build a reactor

RE:

Pardon me for semi-hijacking this thread, but has Prusa done any studies on the conductivity of this filament?

I know there are a few so-called conductive filaments out there which are not really conductive enough for doing such things as circuit board traces, and there is one very conductive one which is obscenely priced.

I know that tungsten is not as conductive as copper or alumin(i)um, but I'm wondering if a filament that is metallically dense enough to block radiation might be conductive enough for some practical projects.

The Prusa blog says 100 metres

If the specific weight of the filament is known (see manufacturer's page), the weight and volume can be used to calculate the length of the spool e.g.:

specific weight (PLA) = 1.3 g/cm³

filament diameter = 1.75mm

spool net weight = 1000 grams

spoollength = 1000 g   /  0.0013 g/mm³  /  (1.75mm * 1.75mm * 3.14159 / 4) =  319846mm = approx. 320 meters

Karl

it will not work as a conductor.

It consists of approx. 40 ccm Tungsten by volume and 200 ccm PETG by volume. So one can expect that the metallic particles do not touch themselves and thus no conductivity.
