Transparency of Prusament PETG Yellow Gold and Carmine Red

I'm looking to get myself a spool of Prusament PETG. I would like a non-transparent material.

Been looking at Yellow Gold, but if I look at the pictures in the shop theres clear diagonal stripes similar to Neon Green transparent for instance. Not what I'm looking for. So is it actually (semi)transparent?

However, when I look at the Carmine Red transparent, these diagonal lines are not visible. It more or less resembles the non-transparent colors.

Am I correct in my observations?? Purely based on the images, I'd go for Carmine Red as I do like the color. Can anyone give conclusive facts on the colors?

The other colors I find less interesting btw, even though some are clearly fully opaque (non-transparent). So please advise me just on Yellow Gold and Carmine Red 🙂

I use a lot of Carmine Red PETG.

Single perimeter is pretty translucent, it could be used as a very dark lamp cover. You can see your fingers through if you put them close etc. It's also pretty light in colour.

2 perimeters are way less translucent at a first glance, they will usually look pretty opaque on a model. Colour starts getting more deep red. You can't really see the infill unless you shine some light though the model, but it depends on the model and other print settings. Some models will appear way more translucent than others, ymmv. You will see the colour darken significantly if you put the print against something dark like Galaxy Black, it can make for a nice effect in black cases with red inserts and whatnot. It's the middle ground, I'd say. Appears opaque until you put something dark against it or shine a light through.

2 and 3 perimeters usually give my prints this weird effect where the color and model are opaque, but there's this weird translucent feel on the surface, as if the first perimeter was translucent and the rest opaque. It's hard to describe, I've tried to take some photos, but the lightning in my flat is pretty bad.

4+ perimeters is opaque. That effect of the first layer being translucent is a lot less visible.

Temperature can affect the colour visibly. If you run it hot, it will be more of a deep rich red and the colour will be more consistent.

It's also very very sparkly, it feels like glitter. One of the most sparkly Prusaments imo.

Here's one of the models I printed with it, you can see that effect of putting this colour against a dark surface. It's not so dark deep unless put inside the case - https://www.printables.com/model/345083-rugged-multipart-pinecilts100ts80-case-v2/comments/715590

Those lines you see on Yellow can appear on Carmine Red depending on print settings and the model, but I usually use 3-4 perimeters and don't see them at all.

I've never used that Yellow tho. I've looked at some photos and it does appear more translucent than Red.

Thank you very much for your extensive answer. I guess it kinda confirms my hunch, and I'm glad I looked beyond the names of the filament regarding the usage of the term "transparent" in the names; it's just not matching up with practice. Prusa, why not fix that? 😛

The red does look pretty awesome, I'd call it blood red even (bit sinister, but if you know what carmine is it's not a worse denomination lol). So that will be my pick!

It's also very very sparkly, it feels like glitter.

Because it IS Glitter and is also labeled as Glitter in the Shop (when you use the Filter functions).

It is currently  the only translucent PETG containing Glitter particles. Very nice!

Yeah, I've meant that it looks more like those super sparkly glitter filaments instead of something much more toned down like Galaxy Black. IMO Galaxy Black has simply lighter freckles in it that don't really shine too much, while Carmine Red is just full on sparkle.

Plus I assume it's not true glitter, since it doesn't call for a large diameter nozzle nor does it leave leftover glitter in the nozzle after changing filaments. 😀
