Time to think about gifts!

Last year for Christmas, I decided to print some 'fancy' boxes as gifts. One box had two compartments to hold my wife's carving tools and honing block. It has a separate lid for each compartment. The lids have rounded edges, not bevelled, without supports. I got nice rounded corners on the lids by reducing the layer thickness to .05 mm. I find that this gives a nice finish without post processing The bottom is personalized with recipient's name and year. What looks like a white rectangle on each top is actually a lithophane of our previous and current 'puppies'.

The other box started out as simple box sized to fit a specific tool, but it was kind of boring. So I added letters similar to a Xmas card. Still boring, so I printed two colour ribbons and a decoration. The once simple box was now the gift and the gift wrap.

Since then I have done two other custom boxes for tools. I ran out of time to get them completed in time.

I have to step up my game for this year and come up with something different.

RE: Nice

Very nice.  I am sure she loved them.  I have my wife a lithophane of our favorite cat that has passed.

Just like taxes, it comes around every year. I can remember when it was just the two weeks before Xmas until New Years day. Two weeks ago, my wife saw Xmas stuff on the shelves at Costco. 👎 By the time Dec. 25 comes around, it is like "ho-hum".

This is where 3D printing comes to the fore. It was fun and exciting designing, tweaking and printing the boxes above. They were appreciated by my wife and son, which makes all the work worth it.

So, whether you are designing your own stuff, or just printing stuff other people designed...go for it!

Remember: If you are having problems with something (and it can be done), just reach out( in the right forum 😉). Someone in the forum probably has the knowledge and is eager to assist you. All they ask is that you do some research first and supply as much of the information found in https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-g eneral-discussion-announcements-and-releases/we-want-to-help-you-you-have-to-tell-us/

Good printing...and better gifting.

Commercialization at its best.  You gotta love the 3 month build up.

Time flies

It has been just over 2 months since my first post. At that time I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do, but no firm plan. Well; with deciding, designing, testing, re-designing, re-testing(more than a few times), this year's Xmas gift to the home is finally complete and waiting to be put up( not before December! ). Time flies when you are immersed in a project.

Pictures are in: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/october-30th-2021-weekend-poll-what-do-you-use-your-3d-printer-for/

If you follow the link, please take time to do the poll and add to the discussion that @same-old-shane started.

Warning: Xmas or other occasions seem to come faster than we expect AND projects take longer than we expect. This is also when things will go terribly wrong. Printer will break or that roll of filament you knew you had, doesn't exist. I had two colours that had tips break off in cold end while unloading and preventing loading( easy 5 minute fix ) and stray strings from these two played havoc with my Filament Sensor (this took a little longer).

If I had waited until after Halloween to start, the project would have been for next year 🙁 .

Time is up!

After months of designing, tweaking and printing, I declared my Xmas "present" to the family complete. I could tweak it some more, but that is another project.(wife said something about Valentine's, Easter, ...) Time is up for this year!

If you started late and are running out of time, buy her/him/them some chocolates and say that "it" was for Xmas 2022. 🤤 🙃 🤤 🙃 🤤

If you completed one, hop over  to  Shane's topic and post a pic(no matter how simple or complex) for all to enjoy.
