RE: The Satin Sheet Thread

Impossible to purchase, I think the only people getting them recently are the people that ordered them on Black Friday last year. I spoke to support they seem to be having manufacturing problems? Either they’re having trouble with yield or they can’t get them manufactured?

Or they have a need to prioritize other projects?  The possibilities are endless.

Personally I think savagenhyhk may have his live z set too high, at least that is how it looks to me.

I would want to see one layer 0.2mm thickness held up to the light so no gaps can be seen and then attempted to be pulled apart to make sure the individual lines do not come apart when pulled.

This could just be a trick of the light making it look like this though.

I agree, should be smooth as silk (satin) :). The textured doesn’t look good as well. Too many lines !

BTW I tried the BuildTak, the finish is brilliant. Only trouble is using PETG is hard to get off the sheet if you let cool. I learnt my lesson not thinking when I pulled a small part off the sheet , took a tiny bit of sheet with it. So annoying. 🙁

Some PETG can be impossible to remove from Buildtac.

I’ve learnt to remove when the beds slightly warm and not be to aggressive. Unfortunately I can’t get another in the uk, I’ll end up paying an arm an leg for postage. I’ll wait for the Prusa Satin instead.

And never try Polycarbonate on the black buildtack surface ☹

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

Hmmm, the satin finish is desirable for an application I have, my current Mk4 Thekking sheet leaves far too much reflective glossiness on the finish (PETG ), but apart from that works really well.

The z-heigh will require some further micro-adjustments. I had my z-heights all changed due to installing the pindaV2. I'll make the adjustments soon enough. My apologies everyone.

@savagenyhk

No problems.  I think that no matter what you do, you will spend a lot of time in the future adjusting that between new plates and new filaments.

Yup.  PC will destroy Buildtak.

I hoping the BuildTak will work better with ABS and ASA... less warping?

@nickrno77

My experience is that it works for ABS and ASA but will over-stick at times.

After having trashed several BuildTak surfaces, my impression is that they're really only suitable for PLA and relatively low temp filament. They made a lot more sense when unheated beds were the norm. Has anybody had a good experience using BuildTak with anything other than PLA?

@bobstro

I have been able to print PETG, but only with a release agent.  Any other way, it sticks too much.  ABS can be a nightmare.  ASA is similar to ABS.

I only print PLA on it.  I have not tried flexibles.

Do not even think of cleaning it with acetone.

I'm going to be stupid enough to try buildtack black again with Prusa PC blend soon, but using the kores glue stick as a release agent first.

Someone has got to potentially take a hit for the team to find out if it's any good like this. 😁

I would never print without Glue Stick.  Some have been lucky and gotten away without it.  I did it once and when the print dried, it warped and flexed the sheet in an arc.

I'm accumulating a nice little collection of the 200x200 BuildTak clone sheets that Overture ships free with each spool of filament. I don't print ABS, and have yet to try PC. I might try it with PETG with some gluestick again. I have no real need to do this though. I'm getting good results with PEI, (clone) textured, and satin sheets already.

I always thought the glue stick was to help with adhesion, it never occurred to me that it could be used as a release agent!.

Every days still a school day even at 53!.

@chocki

It actually does help with adhesion but when it cools, it provides some release agent properties.
