supports structure excessive!!
I don't want supports all over the front and back of the model, surely i could slip in a support in the gap as seen in the image below?
I've taken a look at creating supports in fusion 360 but i think i am running the free version which doesn't cater for supports.. is there any other way to do this?
I downloaded the experimental version of prusa slicer as well and attempted the different options for applying supports.. nothing has worked.
regards all!

Have you tried Support Style Snug?

In your last photo, it looks like the support material is not adhering to the top layer before the slot in the print, causing the circular layers immediately above the support to fail.
The things I would try are first, lowering the contact Z distance, and second, setting the slicer to synchronize the support and object layers.
If I were trying this, I would start by doing one or more test prints, using PS to discard everything below, say, 1mm or so below the slot, in order to try the support parameters without wasting filament. Then do the entire print when the support has been tweaked to print consistently and reliably.
