Store suggestions
Hi
I would like to suggest the following to ensure the quality and misuse of the store
- Make requirements - and perhaps a guide on how to make some of the following.
- Require a picture of a real life print. Too many just upload screenshots or rendered images. We need PoP - proof of printability.
- Require proper documentation. Printing details matter! Simply writing: "just print it" is not enough. We need information about print bed size requirements, suggested and tried filaments. Print time. Filament usage when using suggested infill. Bill of materials for needed extras to complete til build. Written and visual instruction for any assembly or post processing needed. Even in the free section, there are tons of talented and creative users who make fantastic documentation.
- No marketing. Some users have used the store as a tip me function or marketing channel for other things - I can definitely see this becoming a problem in the future with ads for etsy, kickstarter etc. This should be an absolute ban reason.
In order to ensure quality and friendliness for users and sellers, please consider the above mentioned areas. If users are not able or dedicated enough to fulfill the above, then they are not the dedicated and creative users spending hours and hours on quality content, whom you mentioned in your blog post, should be able to monetize their hard work.
Likewise, if you want this store, you need to put some more effort into it and consider the above before too many examples or general bad culture sets in.
RE: Store suggestions
Hello,
Require a photo of an actual print to verify that the digital design can be printed successfully. Implement a strict policy against using the store as a marketing channel for external platforms like Etsy or Kickstarter. These measures aim to ensure that only dedicated creators who invest significant effort into their designs can monetize their work, thus maintaining a high standard of quality and fostering a positive culture within the store.
RE: Store suggestions
and how do you want to check it?
See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
RE: Store suggestions
It depends on what type of Printables store they'd like to run. It could be a just "buyer beware" and people just not buying models that don't have any photos of physical prints to them. Or Prusa could invest some man-hours into moderating posts to create a higher threshold into uploading a product to the store.
I would prefer the latter.
Ignore stores - I always do. The requirement for proof of printability should be a requirement for all files on Printables.
Cheerio,
