Scorched Einsy

My Einsy smoked and set off the smoke alarm. It was burned around the cables headed to the heat bed from the Einsy.  The red connector on the Einsy was burned but the bedside appears fine.  I am replacing the Einsy.  Do I need to replace my heat bed?  I am in contact with support right now.

RE: Scorched Einsy

Off the cuff analysis: You had a bad factory crimp on the connector.

You - and the Einsy - would probably have been fine with replacing the connector and maybe the cable if now too short.

Do both ends - because if they screwed up one end, the other is suspect.

Do better crimps than the factory this time.

Either bad crimps or didn't tighten the screws in the strip properly.  The wires can be placed wrong, which leads to insufficient contact area and resulting heat.  The lugs with the small tips to aide locating the lug under the screw, if not pushed all the way home, will cause problems.

I will have to replace the Einsy.  It is charred.  It was a year old so it is not a big deal.  It probably was loose.
