RE. Drying filament

Does anybody know how filament driers work? Do they simply intake colder wet air in at the bottom and exhust hotter even wetter air at the top? I started thinking about building something and wondered if it wouldn't be better to suck in room air, seal the box and heat then exhust when some arbitary moisture level was acheived. Am I overthinking this?

Could someone who owns a commercial dryer look to see if the inlet and outlet flow are controlled or is it simply hot air rising and the generated low pressure sucks in room air?

The simplest are modified food dehydrators. They have a small fan to circulate air and heat the interior. No elaborate sensors and nothing air tight.

Guy-k2 & Tim have some really good threads on this topic that are worth searching for if you're in the market for a solution.
