RE: QR codes printed on Prusament filament don't work

@seattledavid

I just read through this entire thread and am not familiar with the functions you describe but I agree with @seattledavid if its advertised like that it should work that way.  I also understand your audience you reached isn't the one you intended.  You have brought to my attention a feature which I may now use that I don't currently (assuming it works when I try).  I'm new as well and love the new MK3s printer I just assembled a few weeks ago.  If only I could get my new filaments I ordered weeks ago Id be happier.  I love this printer, very high quality and great attention to detail in this regard at the least even if in other ways it isn't.  Good to know there's helpful people that will help when issues arise.

So if I understand this post correctly, the initial question is:

"In the middle of an international crisis, while the planet is worried about health, home, and family.....why has Prusa not taken the time to immediately fix an arbitrary web feature?"

It seems that the easy solution is to take a picture of the label on the filament box before throwing it away....and a polite email to support letting them know of a problem. The person obviously has a camera and some extra time.  This makes me more ashamed to be American currently.

I hardly see any connection between the COVID-19 and fixing a broken feature in Prusa's system. The fact that we have a COVID-19 outbreak that is less than 1/100th as impactful as the common cold* should have no bearing on whether Prusa can or should fix something that is broken. They are not mutually exclusive.

* According to the CDC (United States Center for Disease Control) as of March 7, 2020 the "Seasonal Flu" has killed 34,157 persons and generated 490,561 hospital visits in the United States, making the common cold 130x as impactful as COVID-19. (Seasonal Flu statistics since October 1, 2019) The rate of new deaths and hospital visits related to COVID-19 continue to be less than 1% of those related to the Seasonal Flu when taken on a daily basis.

We've moved on guys, nothing to see. It's probably a little early to declare final numbers on COVID-19 at this point. Let's get back to hoarding gummi bears and printing stuff as we sit at home.

@nilok

You just did. Why  are you doing this type of comment? Trolling? Looking to agitate people? Drugs?

RE: QR codes printed on Prusament filament don't work

I am stunned to read so much confusion here.

Yes QR on the spool does not work because it is inverted.

The QR standard says that value must be dark on a light background (inherited from printing onto paper).

Inverted QRs are not supported by the standard - and therefore most scanner does not support inverted codes.

Neither websites I found nor androids built in scanner could read it - however once inverted back (black foreground on white background) in an image editor, it scans just fine.

Apples iphones managed to read the code because the scanner software is made clever and invert the picture every odd frames. Therefore iphones owners had not experienced the problem.

Until the spool get engraved black on a white spool, or it get a sticker... Take a picture and invert it.

Too bad this feature was not tested more before making it to production.
