PrusaSlicer - Its blending 2 models into 1

I am trying to have 2 models made in fusion 360 where prusaslicer slices so that the inner model has an outline on the print bed.  This will just show up ever so slightly when finished.  But I cant figure out how to make prusaslicer slice the models without making it just one solid layer.

Sorry - this is hard to explain.  see image.

thanks

Finally got something to work.  Once you have the two bodied in Prusa Slicer - Create a separate "Layers and Perimeters" for the inner bodies.  Change the "Perimeters" to 1 of the inner body.  This will force the slicer to create an outline of the inner bodies.  So the inner parts (bodies) will be outlined without being bridged.

If I understand what you are trying to do correctly, I THINK you can give the internal piece (recycle arrows?) a negative height and lower it to the build plate. It may or may not also require supports, some experimentation is probably in order. If this is totally wrong, I'm sure someone will post the correct procedure. Good luck.

I assume you are attempting to 'emboss' a symbol into the surface of your print. if so you have several options.  I

If both objects are your own designs, or if they are both compatible with your design software then subtract (difference) the symbol from the model in your original design - you will need to set the height carefully and for the cleanest result make the offset a multiple of your intended layer height.

Or: convert the symbol into a texture which is then available to modify any suitable surface.

If you cannot modify the designs then you can import both parts in the slicer and make a less transferrable object:  If you right click on a part in the slicer you can add a modifier, the modifier can be another object, a symbol or a line of 3d text as an STL for example; then with the modifier's layer and perimeter settings all set to zero it turns into a cut-out that you can place as you wish.

First - Thank you for the help.  Yes - Correct.  I designed both bodies (parts) in Fusion 360 as separate parts.

And - Yes - I am trying to create the emboss affect.

I made the height of the symbol .2mm to be one layer thick (and of course a .2mm recess in the cap).  I also tried a complete pass through where the symbol filled a hole in the cap.

?? I do not see where I modify the texture - where is that setting?

Thanks for your help.  @reddawg -  I will also try moving the part below the surface.  Never thought of that - Thanks

There are several ways to do this but check that the original objects are manifold before you start otherwise the results can be unpredicable.

The easiest would be use Fusion 360 to subtract the emblem object from your base object and save that as your new object before generating the STL file.

You can also use OpenSCAD to difference() two imported object STLs removing the intersection of the second STL from the first STL before exporting the result as an STL.

In all cases, just make sure that the subtract object removes at least one if not two layers of depth from the main object and is within the bridging limitations of the filament you are using if the embossing will be in the first and second print layers.

It's big thread but https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-user-mods-octoprint-enclosures-nozzles-.../simple-way-to-print-in-real-multi-color-without-mmu-or-layer-height-based-changes/ may be interesting.

@jplau001

Thank You,

I am not sure what you mean by "manifold" (check that the original objects are manifold before you start) ?

It sounds like the method of creating the emboss effect that you are suggesting is too have the embossed body not touch the heat bed on the first layer.  Thus making the embossed body "recessed".  Is that what you are saying?  This is how I have done it in the past.  What I want is have a completely smooth surface without bridging -

There has to be a way that the slic3r will perform the outline of the body as a separate body.  Thus making a smooth finish, without recessing into the face on the main body.

Thank you all so much.

@captclearleft

You seem to be asking how to emboss without embossing.  How to recess a symbol without recessing it...

The smoothest you will get with a one layer difference will be a symbol embossed into the top surface, anything on the bottom will have to  bridge the void - unless you follow the thread indicated by @towlerg (above) substituting a soluble support layer.

@diem

I am sorry. You are correct. If you followed from the beginning of this thread - I only say emboss because - how do you explain - have the slicer draw the outline of the part within each later, without a recess... It's hard to explain... So , yes. Emboss without actually creating an uneven surface... It's more of an enlay that you would do with wood. Thanks 👍

OK, so follow the thread indicated by @towlerg (above) but replace the same filament.
