PrusaPrinters.org request: option to remove EXIF data

I've noticed that all EXIF data is preserved when uploading makes (and possibly other images). As I personally prefer not to give the precise GPS coordinates of my house, it would be nice if we had an option (preferably enabled by default) to purge at least the location data when uploading images that can be viewed by the public.

Welcome on board!

Uploading a photo on the web without processing it before is a bad idea. You should at at least resize it and optimize it. Often, you have to crop it, sometimes tweak the colors. During this steps, save your picture without EXIF. You will find some tools to do this easy and fast.

I'm aware of that, and I usually do. But many users tend to be unaware of the amount of information their phone cameras actually capture. That's why I'm suggesting the site should purge the EXIF data by default on upload.

I use and recommend EXIFTOOL, and try to remember to use it to strip out all of the stuff that nobody has any need to know before I upload anything anywhere. I can be a real security and privacy b*tch, but really, nobody has a need to know things like my lens serial number or the ground zero coordinates of where I stood to take the shot!

I personally use Greenshot, it's a screen capture tool that gives you options about what you want to do with the capture, including saving it to a file.

So I simply get the image I want to upload on screen, capture it by selecting the area I want, save it to a file. It's a really quick process. At that point you've got your raster image (png, jpg) with nothing but the most basic set of metadata from your file system and you can upload that.

Screens these days have such high resolutions that I've found the image quality to be acceptable for the purpose of print library.
