Prusament Spool Edge Channel (where loose end of filament snaps into) Problems

I have my Prusament spools rolling on bearings. However, the spool often gets caught along the edge where Prusa placed a small channel as a filament holder. There are 2 gaps on each side of the spool. Tape does not work for filling the channel. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any solutions? It's ruined a few prints so far.

I use a TURBO Kitchen lighter, to heat the slot and push the edges into the slot area.

the turbo lighter burns with a blue flame. 
the lighters that burn with a yellow flame, leave soot all over the plastic.

Strange. I run all my spools on TUSH style bearings spool holders, never had any issues with Prusament. Never did anything to the spools, in fact it never occurred to me that this could cause problems.

Formerly known on this forum as @fuchsr -- until all hell broke loose with the forum software...

Cut 4 pieces of filament, straighten as best you can and insert into all of the offending slots, then voila, no more catch points 👍

No that is a low tech simple solution.  

I use the filler-bearing spool holders and have never had the problem but will keep this in mind if I do.

I don't like this issue with Prusa spools as it is an extra risk of failure for users that they need to solve or be mindfull of only with Prusa spools and might give bad experiences to some less experienced users. I also ran 2 times into this problem before I now have some special usage rules for Prusa filament only, and I don't like that I need to explain people yet another rule in some special case "when printing with prusa filament do...".

Problem : I find the prusa spools not really fool-proof / easy to use as they have an extra requirement that I have not seen yet on any other spool. Prusa spools need to be aligned/centered to a degree in relation to the point where the filament is being pulled from. If the pull direction is so off-center from the spool that the filament thread starts rubbing the left or right rim of the spool you have the risk that the filament will be grabbed and get stuck into one of the "build in filament clips" on the spool rim.

Work-Around : So you need to either align the spool with the pull direction so that the filament thread never touches the spool sides/rim, or do some modifications to the spool as posted by @muddymaker or @JoanTabb to close/fill the gaps in the rim so filament can't get stuck in them.

Personal wish : I don't even use these clips as they often don't match the length of my filament end. I just stick the end alway's through one of the hex holes. So I would personally vote for removing (or moving) the build in clips in a way that these spools don't need special knowledge / handling compare to the majority of spools on the market.
