RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
hello Ondřej, I was hoping you would notice it before my message, in any case I did it on purpose to make you notice how easy it is to post make of non-printed objects, I welcome the penalty but please check carefully all the other users, I am convinced of the existence of other n (with n tending to infinity).
(and anyway I could make another 5 posts of non-mine prints in 5 minutes ..........but I won't. Don't worry)
we will read on to the next problem
1+1=10 - take a look at my disgusting and useless models
RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
This is a weird way of introducing myself to you lot - but I have been lurking for a very long time and this thread has finally got the better of me! So hello!
Uploading makes of your own prints to earn Prusameters is NOT permitted and will be reported, ultimately it could get you banned.
I've tried to discover where that is documented other than on this forum - and I presume that the software knows it's the author uploading his/her own prints and therefore doesn't score them?
I became curious because I've noticed a few people with "makes" exceeding "downloads" by a large number, and sure enough mostly their "makes" are of their own models.
It seems that some mostly upload renderings and then photographs of printed models as "makes." Does having more "makes" somehow influence the search algorithm, is this a habit from using other sites, or are they just making a metric tonne of prusapoints?
RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
Hello Peter, welcome and congrats on not being a lurker anymore 😀
There are and always will be bad actors. It's--unfortunately--human nature that there will always be some rotten apples. From what the Prusa folks have written here I understand that when you cash in Prusameters, someone will do a quick manual check. I guess it's clicking on the prints in the user's profile, which should make cases like the ones you mentioned immediately apparent. Hopefully they charge them with a boatload of negative prusameters or show them the red card for foul play. If I saw something like the behavior you've described, I wouldn't hesitate to click the Report button.

Did they turn this off?
I uploaded a print yesterday, something entirely new, and didn't get any credit for it.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
You only get credits for the first 10 prints you upload. Then you get credits based on how your prints are perceived by the community as measured by downloads, likes, makes. I guess that's to keep people from uploading twenty minor versions of a model, which I can understand.

Ah, of course.
I feel foolish for asking, but I appreciate you answering all the same.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
It is a bit frustrating when a person does make a model (albeit I am not very good so it takes a lot :)) then people upload 100 at a time. Yes I know it is for everyone but actual models get buried so fast ;(( And I also know Prusa is doing it's best to make the site enjoyable for all. Just my 2 cents/grip for the day.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
I can't see the image - is it just me or did it not load correctly?
RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
Hmmm...
I edited the post 2 post above this one, to add the image. and whilst I can see it, in the 'edit view'
I still can't see it in the normal thread view.
So I have added the image here

Thanks Joan. I uploaded the image as an attachment instead of hosting it somewhere else.

I'd say you're on the wrong forum.

RE:
The Prusameter idea is really nice but in my case the cost of getting 2 free spools exceeds what I can buy 2 good spools local so I doubt I’ll use the incentive. . It has fueled the signal to noise ratio to become so low that it is very difficult to find quality prints. Every submission needs to be curated. If the author doesn’t have an actual model made. Take it down. It is not a cad site. If there are no detailed print parameters, take it down. I think there are multiple submissions for every letter of the alphabet. If curation isn’t brutal and timely the site will get away from Prusa and become another thingiverse.
RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
I agree. Quality would increase a lot if people were obliged to post a real world print picture and everything else would be taken down at least regularily. Given the content generation this should be doable without too much work effort. If it is getting too much one could certainly work with help from the community (where still a curator calls the shots).

RE:
Yes many forums look for quality contributors and ask them to help with curation this distributed management is the only way to scale sanely but you first need to define a really well thought out set of “make” requirements ie you can’t post collection of items individually, etc I find more quality models that are on printables using YouTube and google searches rather than any search tool on Printables

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
Yes, the search is really a bit awkward. My Catan set gets listed really low and that's just self focused but I would love to know why. It has more likes, more views and more downloads than most of the entries listed above when I search for "Catan". It would be not really a big deal if it only was about my entry but the search engine is equally quirky for everything else too. One really gets much better results if one uses google to search pictures specifically on printables.com for anything.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!
I really don't care if they make improvements to the search engine or not. I just use Google or STLfinder, which work pretty well, if I'm looking for anything specific. But I admit I gave up browsing for new stuff on printables because most of the new things seems like the low quality or just plain stupid results from their competitions. The recent LCD knob competition is a prime example. I wish I could simply unsee some of the stupidity produced there...

The equation has really changed for me since they allowed to trade in prusameters for two-spool coupon codes. Now I can get two spools for USD 15 shipping, which is a great deal.
