Problem in carbon fiber pla printing (Colorfabb xt-cf20)

Hi

Recently we have bought 20 % carbon fiber filament from Netherlands. We 3d print with the creality cr-10s printer. With pure PLA normally we did not encounter any problems. However, the problems appeared with carbon fiber. Of course, we changed the printing parameters for the carbon fiber. Our geometry is not complicated, but we use our own gcode for printing the parts. While start the printing for first few layers we do not have any specific problems. However, after a while for final layers it seems that lose too much filament or the filament jam at some point. Any idea you might kindly give for us or any same experience?

With ColorFabb XT-CF20, be sure your Max volumetric speed is set to 1. Any faster and it tends to jam up. This stuff has to be printed extremely slowly.

Actually my print speed in gcoode is 120 mm/min! 2 mm/s

actually it is print speed

I don't know how to set volumetric speed in gcode!

What size nozzle are you using?, and I take it you are using a hardened nozzle, in which case have you bumped your temperatures up to compensate, I also found normal Amphora filament required a hotter than normal temperature and this XT-CF20 is made with said material.

0.4mm nozzle may be prone to blocking with carbon filament, 0.5mm or more is recommended for CF, and this particular filament XT-CF20 is one of the brands I would trust to actually have carbon fibres in it unlike some of the cheaper filaments which actually only have graphite in them. But persevere, and slow down your print speed, try uping the temperature a bit and try not to use any retraction.

Thank you so much. The nozzle is steel with 0.5 mm diameter at 240 C. So, we use 0.4 mm width. Is it OK? Or we should use the same width with nozzle diameter?

You know, if we do not use retraction, then it might ooze too much. As I said it seems that "it got jammed at some point or lost too much filament" since it is happened in middle of  the printing.

Most temperature values I've seen for this filament are 250 first layer, 245 after, but you may have to go up another 5 degrees due to the steel nozzle, also you should be using the same extrusion width or wider as the nozzle hole diameter, this is probably where your problem lies as the printer is actually trying to stretch the extruded filament thinner to get an extrusion width thinner than the nozzle hole size, and I bet with the carbon fibres, this filament does not stretch well when melted.

Actually, I used 0.4 mm width for 0.4 mm nozzle diameter. So, 0.4 mm width for 0.4 mm nozzle diameter does not give the same result as 0.5 mm width for 0.5 mm nozzle diameter?!

Look under Filament Settings->Advanced if you're using PrusaSlicer. If not, use PrusaSlicer and see if it prints properly. If so, you can translate settings to other slicers. Since you specified mm/min, I assume you're using Simplify 3D.

Hi everyone, I also use the Colorfabb XT-CF20. 
For me, this can be easily printed with standard speeds from the PETg profile in the Prusa slicer.
The only thing i have to change is increase the temperature by 10°
No matter if I use the brass nozzle or the hardened (0.4mm),the temperature is the same.
I use a MK3s with MMU2s.
