Printed Solid Pricing/Advantage?
I was delighted to hear a while back that there would be a source for Prusa printers, accessories, and materials here in the US. I just went to Printed Solid to purchase some filament with the thought that I could get Prusament quality filament and save some money. However, the markup on material means that it's still cheaper for me to order from the Prusa mothership in Prague. If you order enough, you get free shipping from Printed Solid but it doesn't make up the difference with regard to the total cost of the order. Printed Solid's price for petg spools is > $10 more. For PC Blend (if it's in stock), $12 more per spool. PLA, $10 more per spool. I don't get it; what the advantage here?
Is there anyone here that can provide some information from Prusa's perspective on where they think that this relationship with Printed Solid is going? Is the focus more on hardware in terms of benefit of having a US domestic source? The material side of the equation isn't making any sense at all.

This has been discussed many times here. It's basically a play to provide a source for government and corporate purchases that require local sourcing.
The benefit lies in having a local repair depot and shorter, so quicker, delivery routes.
Not really. The few times I bought from PS delivery wasn't any faster than FedEx from Prague, sometimes slower.
What do you expect? Take it up with your government. PS import in volumes well above the import tariff threshold (and tariffs are a changing) so they have to pass on the extra costs whilst your small orders are/were (changing tariffs) not subject to them. Even printers built by PS use (mostly) imported parts so expect little price advantage.

Cheerio,

Ah! The on shore sourcing for govt and DOD related relationships makes sense. thank you for pointing that out.
I did poke around a little but didn't find the previous discussion(s) so sorry for the echo.
