Printed Solid more expensive than Prusa?
Great announcement that Printed Solid was now producing Prusament in the US. But did anyone look and see it is actually more expensive to order from the US with free shipping than it is to ship it from Europe? They bumped the prices up so far in the US that is still doesn't make sense. I guess the only benefit would be maybe getting a day or two more quickly. Drop the price by $5 per roll in the US an I might consider it. For the math majors out there you have to order 8 rolls or more for the price to be equal.

Yeah I saw this too. PrintedSolid is a total joke. I mean if they are owned by Prusa, then why are they still making and selling Jessie? And why would their prices be so much more than Prusa? None of it makes actual sense. Unless Joseph is trying to run PrintedSolid out of business, the current price structure just makes zero sense.

I have ordered Prusament from both Prusa and Printed Solid. The sweet spot for ordering from Prusa is 2 which is about $38 each with shipping. Printed Solid is about the same price for 2 but it gets cheaper the more you buy.

Why can't Prusa rent US warehouse, fill it with filament and parts, and just ship from there when someone from the US buys something? This is what Bambu Lab does, and what every foreign company does with many US customers? No foreign taxes, no super expensive shipping.
As a foreign customer Prusa quote you the export price with no VAT(EU internal sales tax). Depending on which country you live in you will pay import duty, but many countries waive that for small quantities. See threads here from US users complaining about paying import duty on their XLs....
If Prusa 'rent a warehouse' and fill it - the contents of the warehouse will already have attracted import duty and so the price is higher - then when you buy your local sales tax will be added on top.
Your country is in the middle of an election; one of the candidates has promised to dramatically increase import duties and if he wins the numbers will look far worse. My guess is that Joseph Prusa is waiting to see the result before committing to any large investments. The US is obviously a large portion of Prusa's market but I'd guess that Prusa would survive without it. Don't forget that Bambu is probably (but of course they will deny it) supported by the Chinese governement.

Is the US revenue really so leaky? Or are those companies hiding the taxes within the price quoted?

Even after they have moved production to the US their prices are much higher. So there is no tariffs causing the price to be what it is. This is just bad management it appears.

A lot of those doors are in the process of being closed. I saw a video the other day, about the US government starting to crack down on Chinese companies splitting shipments up to stay below the $800 de minimus threshold. Prusa's current business model for shipments that fall under the threshold may be immune for the time being, since they are all legit sales to individuals.

PLA from Prusa is $30 + shipping and it’s $36 with free shipping from Printed Solid. This is a good example of Free shipping isn’t Free!!

Hmmmm... Not quite. Printed Solid is only "free shipping" over $50. For this roll of filament, shipping at Printed Solid was $17.56. The same roll of filament from Prusa cost (to my house) $18.65. So using your prices its Printed Solid = $53.56 vs Prusa = $48.56
Amazon has Elegoo PLA for about $15 and I get it tomorrow for free with Prime. Without Prime you can get two of them for $30 in a few days.

I forgot about the free shipping over $50. I always spend more than that so I didn’t think about it. If you’re going to spend $36 why not add $14 more and get free shipping?
If you buy 2 spools from Prusa the price is about the same as Printed Solid. If you buy 3 or more from Prusa the price is going to be higher because of shipping.
I have never used Elegoo. Where is it made?
Have you tried Printed Solid Jessie filament?

I have been 3D printing over 10 years now. At the beginning, yes, different filaments had different qualities. Today, they are rarely different, certainly not PLA. More high-end filaments maybe. Making filament is not rocket science. Most today is made in China, but those that aren't are really not better or worse. Maybe I wouldn't buy the VERY cheapest, but the next step up are all good stuff.
