Please Prusa make a larger version of the MK4

On  my Whish list,  A large 350 x 350 x 350 or there abouts.  version of the Mk4 !!!!!

If only Prusa made a large Mendel machine like the chinses toy makers are selling now, so they finally copied the steel sheet, but still cant put together a consistent quality machine, Please save us Joe!

Would love a bigger bed do not need multi extruders or high speed core XY.

A kit for 1200 - 1500?  Could it be done?

Mk4 is the wrong design for a printer in that size.  The XL is a better one to be based on.  There are kits and some people have built large 3D printers and the videos can be seen online.   When you get to that size, you need a moving gantry due to the amount of room required for a moving bed.  You also need the strength to hold all that extra mass.  Already people complain that the MK3 upgrade to the MK4 doesn't supply a "stronger" frame.  Imagine expanding that 4 or 5 times.  There are some larger printers that can be purchased for US$7,500 and up.  There are designs and instructions to build some in the size you request.  Even some combination designs that are CNC/laser and 3D printer.

I think the success of printers like the Elegoo Neptune 3 Plus and Max   320mm and I think 420mm square beds, which are both Mendels ,perhaps disproves that, "Mk4 is the wrong design for a printer in that size". Sure it may not be the ultimate design that is going be the optimal for a larger bed moving around , but it seems to work fine and get the job done that a lot of people are looking to do (not everyone needs a Porsche some can use a VW still a well made reliable car), based on the reviews and high demand for these printers.   I think there would defiantly be a market for a Prusa version of these machines, that would fit in a price range some where in between a MK4 and the XL.   I am hoping that the market trend gets so big for the larger bed printers, that prusa will come out with it own version of one priced les that the XL to capture some of this market share, actually I think they will at some point.

I was commenting on the 1200 to 1500 printer.  Can you imagine the room necessary for that to have the bed moving?  How many people can allocate 3m of floor space for a 3D printer?  If you want 360X360X360, then there is the XL which is a much better option than a larger MK4 IMHO.  The XL was my first choice but delivery moved me to the MK3 due to delivery dates.

In my space, about 400mm bed slinger would be all I could handle and that would be a problem.  Once you get past a certain size, you need to think about extra space that a bed slinger uses, especially when you add in an enclosure.  Any large 3D printer would have to be designed around speed from the head to the drive system.  Fast movements require heavy duty frames.  All this adds costs.

RE:

I want something like the Elegoo Neptune Plus but made by Prusa , so a larger Mk 3 or 4 , don't need high speed or more than 1 extruder. So for me the XL is a bit over kill at 2K for one extruder.  If they could do a larger machine for 1200 -1500 $ i would go for it.

In my wishlist I would like a printer that could print out a sword/staff/rifle in one price for example 200x200x1200

having 1200 on the Z axis would lead to poor strength because all of the layer lines would be across the blade.

1200x200x200 or 200x1200x200 would be stronger...

RE: Please Prusa make a larger version of the MK4

In my learning path this year on 3D printing, I came across an article on 3D printing on an angle.  In this case, the head was angled but there is nothing saying that the bed couldn't be angled.  Part of the idea was that strength could be stronger and it would help with some shapes but caused issues with other things, mainly collisions for some shapes.

For a printer to be tall, 1200 print Z axis, as Joan says, the print would not have the strength, and think of the possible support materials or wipe towers for multicolour prints.  Post processing may be able to add the necessary strength.  Also, the pain if there is a failure at 1000mm zone.

I am involved with a hobby CNC project and have thought about adding a print head to that for large items.  The issue for this is the necessary resolution of the drive mechanism and the heated bed.   It would have to be zoned like the XL.

Better to design the parts to be joined.
