PETG resiliency and a belt I'm working on.

The belt I've been working on is a spinoff of the beautiful print in place Belt 2.2 by printschnitzel.at, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3592064

Printed in Atomic brand silver PETG, the printschnitzel belt broke quickly at one of the buckle hooks.

I wanted to design a modular, stretchy belt. Earlier prototypes of my design printed in Atomic silver broke at the flexible links. Hatchbox silver also broke at the links. Both seemed a bit brittle, but maybe I didn't nail the printing temperature.

Prusa black PETG seems to be holding up, seems less brittle than the Atomic and Hatchbox silvers. I'd like to try another Hatchbox color, but only have white. 

Has anyone noticed different PETG's being more resilient, tougher, less brittle than others? Any recommendations? Should I try another Hatchbox color?

Prusament black and Hatchbox black and silver seem to be performing equally (bendy, not brittle) with the belt now that I am printing at the correct temps, for me, at this moment:

Prusament - First layer 240c and 250c after first layer.

Hatchbox -- First layer 230c and 240c after first layer.

Hatchbox came out brittle when printed at Prusament temps.

Oh, my belt is shown assembled, I just like to take pics on the Prusa build plate. This belt is not print in place.

I'm reprinting the more stressed parts of the belt in Hatchbox silver using the Generic PETG filament settings in Prusa Slicer instead of Prusament temp settings. This is printing them 10c cooler.

I have one belt in Prusament Jet Black printed at Prusament temps and will have a Hatchbox silver version refitted with new version links printed at Generic PETG temps. The only way I know to truly test them is to wear them.

The belt does conform to my waist well since the 50mm flex links bend and twist.

Feel free to comment on your PETG brittleness experiences or the belt.

I have not yet tried to print with PETG, have only experience 3D Printing PLA and ABS.

Was not sure of any new complications I would get when starting prints using PETG filament.

I've never printed ABS. PLA was too brittle and warped in the sun, so I didn't print much.

I've now converted to PETG and love it. I do recommend getting a nickel plated copper nozzle as PETG will stick to brass. Keep the nozzle clean before printing. I use copper tongs and or strips of corregated cardboard to wipe ewbies off the nozzle just before printing.

Print slowly, first layer I use 10mm/s and 40mm/s after the first layer. For Prusament I use 240c first layer and 250c after. For generic PETG I use 230c first layer and 240c after first layer.

Think you may have to adjust your live z when switching to PETG.

I have a friend who mostly prints in ABS and PLA. He may only use PETG for clear prints.

PETG for me is more flexible than ABS and PLA.  Depending on the brand, ABS can be brittle.

You are welcome. I think I'm getting more whispies with Hatchbox PETG than Prusament. I'll try lowering the Hatchbox print temp a bit, probably no less than 230c after 1st layer. I'll try 235c next for after first layer. I'm printing new links with what I hope is the final version. 🙂 

This belt, with my shape (hey, round is a shape!) is the ultimate test of strength.

A little off topic, I like Hatchbox silver PETG much more than Atomic silver PETG. Atomic silver is somewhat translucent. Hatchbox silver is opaque, seems to have much more pigment in it.

Oh, sheesh! My last couple or more pairs of belt links printed in Hatchbox black were printed at Prusament temps. I believe that is why they were more whispy, dang near furry. Sigh.

A fuzzy link. This was Hatchbox printed at 250c by mistake. I'm now printing Hatcbox at 235c. This design is more comfortable than the wavy links that dig into exposed skin, but the small channels in the new design make for hard to get at whispies.

I tossed all the fuzzy links.

A very quick pass with a jet blue flame lighter makes what you called wispies just shrivel right up and disappear.

Thanks. I the stringing is not too severe in links printed at proper temps. I keep meaning try a heat gun, but can't get to the heat gun now.
