PETG Printing Advice
Hi All,
I'm have some slight issues with changing a print to PETG filament. The initial problem was that the print was not sticking to the bed with extruder first layer temp 235C and other layers 230C (bed 70C all the way through). After looking at some articles I bumped the extruder temp to 250C for all layers, which resolved it. But I'm noticing some defects on my prints as shown in the attached photos. Apparently this can result from the filament absorbing moisture from the air. Are there any other possibilities for what might be causing this issue? I use Prusa Slicer.

Those little squiggly defects are CLASSIC for wet filament. I know you said you dried it, but looking at your last photo I think it is still wet. How are you drying it? Are you sure about the temperature, and is there air flow to carry the moisture away?

You should dry PETG filament before printing. Make it a general rule. 🙂

Hello again!
I'm still running into some issues with this. I've tried drying the filament 3-4 hours at 150° F, and subsequently tried dropping the extruder temperature back down to 240° C for all layers. I'm still getting the same kind of defects. I am noticing that the defects on the outer wall are concentrated at the layer start point on each layer, giving a line that runs up the part. One site advises changing the retraction distance settings. Are there other possibilities? I may try dropping the extruder temp 5 degrees more.

Gotcha, yeah I was using a large drying oven we have at work that has a digital temp controller, but it is self-contained and doesn't have ventilation. I might just go for one of those filament dryers.
