Object Stacking

Sometimes I want to stack an object on top of another object. Everything that I pull into Slic3r, adhere all my objects to the zero (0) z-axes. I have tried several things, but nothing works. I tried left clicking on the object to get a setting window, and loading an object. But things didn't go the way I wanted.
How can I change this ability, so that I can put an object vertically on top of another object?

I did a little practicing and it looks like you need to layer your objects in a 3d program and save them as an stl in their. Then when you bring them in to slic3r turn on supports everywhere and it should do the trick. Just be prepared for lots of clean up.

If you stack the items in another 3d program,

export each part as a separate STL
add the base STL in Slic3r
then while the first part is still selected, go into the OBJECT/settings menu, you can use the load parts option to add the remaining parts, this should maintain the stacked relationship!

Slic3r cannot adjust the Z height of the items? What an oversight!

What is the application behind this stacking?
I can think of designing some custom support structure and stacking the final object on top with a small gap.
In which other situation do you need that stacking feature?

As a sample application, my son and I are creating game pieces; we've found some models we like on Thingiverse, but want to add colored platforms under the pieces to represent the different player sets. It would be _nice_ to add a disc, stack the models on top, and then use ColorPrint to separate the platform color from the model.

As a sample application, my son and I are creating game pieces; we've found some models we like on Thingiverse, but want to add colored platforms under the pieces to represent the different player sets. It would be _nice_ to add a disc, stack the models on top, and then use ColorPrint to separate the platform color from the model.

TinkerCAD can do that. Import your model from Thingiverse, make a base, and put your model on top of it. Then export the new STL.
From there go to ColotPrint just as you said.

I should think any 3D CAD prog can do it -- Fusion 360 certainly can. I do exactly what you want to do with a hex base I designed.

I have used Windows 10 3DBuilder to add a platform to a model.
